There(was) a Forum thread with the title Unnecessary Rudeness for NO REASON!
A female member of this site set her profile to private. This means only friends can see it. Many others do this, too. Usually, one may request to be Added to Friends, and this is often just a formality as most people are either happy to add friends or will simply deny the request, or not respond in order to keep it in limbo to prevent further friendship requests.
In this case, however, a male member tried to become the friend of this female member. According to him, she decided to respond with a generous amount of spite. I wont repeat her sentences here, but you can see them in the aforementioned thread. She clearly said that further contact would be construed as harassment.
The male person says he tried to explain himself civilly. Her response was a vicious as the first time.
One may wonder why people would attempt to become friends with someone whose profile cant even be seen. The problem is the reason for setting a profile to private is as individual as the person who makes the decision. Sometimes, its just a way of controlling who can see the member and who cant. If the requester seems okay, he or she may be approved. Otherwise, friendship is denied. End of story. Reactions like the one described above are as rare as they are disturbing.
One additional clue may be something she is said to have written in the chatroom: HOW DO I CONTACT THE OWNER OF THIS SITE? Yes, everything in capital letters.
Part of the reason for the confusion is the paucity of information when a profile is set to private. There is absolutely nothing to explain why this is done.
All we see is View Nudist Profile, This users profile is private and available only to friends, Gender, Age, Located in, and the usual Message Me, Add to Friends and Flag Me. There is no message like I'm not accepting any new friends, or Please don't contact me, or Hi, I'm friendly; I just want to control who sees me.
Also, as someone else has noted, when a friendship request is denied, no notification is sent to the one making the request. That person may honestly believe the request did not get through, and a new request is made. Perhaps a way of specifically blocking friendship requests would help.
For the record, the female party of this dispute then sent a message to another person to present her side of the story and ask that it be posted in the thread, which it was. Why she didnt do this herself is unknown at this point. The thread is in a part of the Forum that is open to all, certified or not.
UPDATE: The female member is still on this site but the male member, whose username wasclaude (no additional letters or numbers)seems to have disappeared. Whether he left of his own volition or not is unknown at this point. The thread has disappeared with him.
