Male Cancer Awareness

There is a poignant feature on the Male Cancer Awareness Campaign (MCAC) website. It subtly encourages men to be more relaxed about their own bodies and nudity in order to facilitate earlier detection of cancer.  http://www.malecancer.org/nnm/abouts/campaign

Nudism is the Great Equalizer. It is impossible to put on airs when one is nude.-- NudeInMA<br>

RE: Male Cancer Awareness

Thanks for that link, good sir! The clip is excellent.

Men have horrible hangups about having their bodies "invaded" for cancer detection. They are wimps when it comes to letting the doctor perform the necessary procedures for early detection. The facts...

Other than skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men. The latest American Cancer Society estimates for prostate cancer in the United States are for 2012:

* About 241,740 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed
* About 28,170 men will die of prostate cancer

About 1 man in 6 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime.

Prostate cancer occurs mainly in older men. Nearly two thirds are diagnosed in men aged 65 or older, and it is rare before age 40. The average age at the time of diagnosis is about 67.

Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men, behind only lung cancer. About 1 man in 36 will die of prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer can be a serious disease, but most men diagnosed with prostate cancer do not die from it. In fact, more than 2.5 million men in the United States who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point are still alive today.

What are the key statistics about prostate cancer?

Routine PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) tests should be part of every man's physical exams. A doctor's finger palpating your prostate for lumps takes less than a minute. Prostate cancer can take your life.

VTY has had both a colonoscopy and a prostate biopsy (due to slightly elevated PSA). Both produced entirely negative results. They are at worst uncomfortable, and the discomfort is worth it to know what's going on in there.

As the video says, no one ever died of being embarassed. Swallow the pride, suffer with the embarassment, and get it done. Manly men take care of their bodies, inside and out.

A lie has speed, but truth has endurance.

RE: Male Cancer Awareness

We often put these things off, and say   " I feel ok, so there's no need for a checkup ",  but of course you feel ok, because many things don't show any visible signs until it is too late.

So do as the man said,
Don't wait til you're dead.

RE: Male Cancer Awareness

Too many people treat their bodies like they treat their cars. When your car makes a strange noise it might be a sign that something is going wrong. Many people will just turn up the volume on their radios and the annoying sound seems to go away. That is until the problem becomes catastrophic, then it's too late.

When your body gives you a strange symptom, get it checked before it's too late. The life you save may be your own.

Here's a hint for all the men who love their wives. Learn how to do a breast exam and insist on doing a proper breast exam on your wife at least once a month. Become her Bosom Buddy. She'll love you for it.

RE: Male Cancer Awareness

The problem with a lot of cancers is that there are no symptoms until it is too late to fix it.

An hour or so of indignity can mean many more years of life.
