Directions to Collins Beach

By car, take Highway 30 north from Portland, or south from St. Helens. North of the town of Linnton, watch for a sign, "Sauvie Island Bridge" at a traffic-light-controlled intersection. Turn onto the bridge. Note: If you have not already purchased a daily or yearly parking permit, you will need to do so. They are available at the general store at the base of the bridge as you cross the river channel. A daily pass is $3.50; an annual permit is $11.00. Be sure to place this on your dash when you park at the beach.rr rrYou have two choices as to routes to Collins Beach: One is to take GIllihan road, which runs from the general store underneath the bridge, and follow it for several miles to the intersection with Reeder Road, turning right onto Reeder Road. Or, take Sauvie Island Road north from the store (turn left out of the store parking lot), and turn right onto Reeder Road a few miles up. Continue on Reeder Road after it intersects with Gillihan Road. rr rrWhichever route you choose, follow Reeder Road, which will become a bit narrower and rougher as it crosses into Columbia County. Stay on Reeder Road, passing Reeder Beach, a small RV park and marina, and a few farms. Stay on Reeder until the road turns to gravel (the beach parking lot along the paved portion is a clothed beach, known as Walton Beach). Once you reach the gravel portion, you will see a sign: Entering Clothing-Optional Area. Parking is along the left-hand side of the road; foot trails to the beach are on the right, marked 1 through 6.

Best C.O. Beach In the N.W.
Reviewed on : March 27th 2015
Date of Stay : August 09th 2014

Love it here. This beach gives the most eclectic cross-section of nudists/naturists you will find in a pubic nude beach. LOTS of soft, white sand, hundreds of yards of walkable beach, and accessible by boat, and car. I will make my way there a few times during the summer when my busy life allows for it.

Pros
Everything

Cons
Short season due to its location.

Great Late Season Beach
Reviewed on : March 13th 2015
Date of Stay : September 13th 2014

Though cloudy in the morning, I was able to get naked and enjoy the sand and water at Collins. The afternoon was sunny and warm, with friendly nude people, including a lovely younger woman showing off, and an older couple who invited me to join them for the afternoon. The beach is maybe 1/3 to 1/2 mile long, sandy, with shade trees in back and a couple spots on the beach itself. I enjoyed strolling the beach nude and seeing the people, most also nude, though only 50-100 in all. When I was there the river was warm enough to swim in too. A number of folks were wading and some were swimming. Several boats were anchored off shore as well. The beach is on Sauvie Island, accessible via a bridge from the Oregon side of the Columbia River, within 20 miles of Portland. It is also not far from a member-owned C.O. campground, Mountaindale Sun Resort, in the hills also northwest of Portland. I'm hoping to camp there, hike their trails, and visit Collins on a long weekend this next summer. There are a couple stores on Sauvie Island where you can purchase day passes ($3-4), food, and drinks. Be sure to bring all of the above, since there are no amenities at the beach.

Pros
Nice mix of people, sandy beach, swimmable river, close to Portland and nude camping

Cons
Somewhat hit or miss weather, it being the PNW, no food or amenities, bring your own

A Great Day at a Great Beach
Reviewed on : May 07th 2013
Date of Stay : May 07th 2013

Excellent location and great weather. Yesterday was one of the first days of this year that was hot enough the really enjoy the sun bare. The one guy was playing his obnoxious music way to loud from his boat. Some one ask him to turn it down, then all was good. I found the wide range of people interesting with a young, old, male, female, tanned, light, clothed, topless, and nude. It appeared to be a few more people the typical choose to be not nude. I wonder if they were there because they liked the beach, were not comfortable with being bare yet, to many people for there comfort level. A few couples were nude woman / clothed man which an uncommon combination. Some people were very tanned like it was the end of the season instead of the beginning. We get very little from late fall to early spring. How do they stay this tanned here? Maybe some of the clothed people wanted to be more free but haven't become comfortable yet. The warm sun makes me want to bare it all and enjoy it. I hope the clothed people are brave enough to try it, and enjoy if it's what they want. I stayed for couple of hours but didn't want to go home. I'm looking forward to the next nice day that I have time the relax and enjoy the sun and fresh air. It was so calm that there were tiny bugs that were annoying, no bites just there. I didn't notice them later. I think they moved on.

Pros
Large beach, nice sand, well blended visitors

Cons
Cold water until July.
