Is this the decline of civilization?

The governments of Greece and possibly the USA are set to default on economies, the rise of terrorism worldwide has made us all paranoid of our neighbours, the rise of political correctness has made it impossible to discuss the situation, and the greedy 1% of society continues to pilage all the world economies to squirrel away massive amounts of capital , which is desperately needed to restart our industries here at home.
Politicians pass openly biased and punative laws, and the election process itself is rife with electronic trickery and monetary corruption. Taxes in this country are higher than ever before in history, and the big corporations are still getting handouts from the federal and provincial governments!
Even the latest NHL hockey series has all the appearance of being fixed by biased referees and head office interference. Oh, and the latest sport favoured by our youth is the gladiatorial bloodsport known as UFC.
Didn't Rome have gladiators, just before it's downfall?
Now bad science is telling us that we have global warming , and that will fry us all, despite it being cooler and wetter in this country for the past two years than ever in history!
Maybe it is time for us all to get back to fundamentals?
Caring about ourselves and our neighbours, eating more local diets, growing some of our own foods, balancing fresh air and exercise with our work careers, and tending to our families. A strong family unit is the basis for strong societal values.
It saddens me to think that the civil society we now enjoy, the freedoms we have all taken for granted, are being washed away to produce a more totalitarian society which limits all that we are allowed to do with more rules and directive every year.
Maybe the Arab spring is just the beginning, and the social upheaval that has begun change in the middle east is going to spread to the west. People without homes and jobs tend to do things that are unpleasant sometimes. Maybe it is time the govenments started listening to the reality on the streets.
Less handouts to corporate welfare, more help for our down and out citizens, easing up on laws designed to gather votes instead of protecting us, and help for our agriculture sector, so that we can at least feed ourselves. More help in the renewable energy processes, and less dependance on non renewable fossil fuels. We can change our world if we all work towards the goal.
