Arse precedes ass as a slang reference to the buttocks. Ass is an American English bastardization of arse (which goes back a long way in English, comes from the German).

An ass is a donkey. A mule is a cross between a male donkey and a female horse. They can't reproduce.

I love the "holey than thou" pun but had to read it a few times to get it.

I think arse is the british version of ass. I usually say bum or bottom. I think that sounds nicer than ass :)

Most Aussie nudists would say bum.

It's simply an "ASS". Using 'arse' isn't fooling anyone and makes you sound phony. It is what it is.

Don't Americans sometimes call it a Fanny. That is very confusing to us Brits

Yes, in the US and Canada too, a fanny is the buttocks, hence fanny-pack. In the UK it does have a different connotation!! LOL!!!

English is a very strange language and it keeps us separate from the Brits. There is English and there is American English, so many words with different meanings. That doesn't even count how the language is being changed by modern folks.

Don't forget the ever-popular bumm.
