How to carry things

How do people carry around things like keys, wallets, and phones? Bring a bag? Just don't carry things with you?

I try to sling everything over the shoulder. Backpack (lunch inside), umbrella with a shoulder strap. I carry a chair. I tend to only want to carry one thing so I can switch arms. Makes it a little easier when you have to hike a bit.
