My mother tongue is German. I can read and understand English. But I have not much practice in speaking English. And I have the advanced Latin certificate. It was a long time ago and I have never met an ancient Roman to speak Latin with him.
For me being raised in northern USA in Wisconsin. I learned different words from different languages. But I am sure I could read and speak Canadian. :-)
Now that we live in southern USA, Arizona. I can say some words in Spanish. :-)
Ok a guy asked me why people in USA do not speak more than one language ? I did not have a answer then. But after I thought about. Well look at the size of just of North American. Mainly one language. Some spots are different, and native languages.
Now look at Europe, how many different languages ! Wow ! Asia about the same problem. More oceans separating countries. A little bit more understandable. But it almost makes sense just to speak one language in an area the size of North America.
Just saying in English. Lol
