Lived up that way for a while. The most recognised beach is Buchans Point - but you'll probably need a car to get there! Popular beach with locals - but nothing "optional" about it - this is Qld afterall!

If you want more piece and quiet - pull up anywhere along the road to Port Douglas and find yourself a deserted patch of sand.
