General Nudity at Schools or Drs
It's the same in Germany, nobody showers after sports in school. To my opinion nudism should be teached at school. Group showering should be a duty after sports. People would get used to normal nudity in a young age. What was done that people are doing it in Canada?
When I was at school back in the 1970's very early 80's after sports activitities at school all students showered naked. Back then we had male showers all positioned along a wall and we used to all stand side by side showering. Nobody had a problem with it at all in the years I was there. The other thing to think about from back then was that we had no noticeable problems with sexualy orinentation either, so we did not have problems with boys fancing other boys. The girls had their own showers but the design of the showers were exactly the same as the boys.
What sometimes happend was that when the changing rooms, which incorporated the shower area as well was used for classroom attendance , you'd have boys and girls mixed in the same changing rooms, which was not a problem initialy because everyone was clothed, however, during the days of the week we had PE lessons and sometimes getting back into the changing rooms after lunch could be late. This occurred both in the boys changing rooms and the girls, so after the bell rang to signal the end of lunch breaks etc, the boys and girls used to enter the changing rooms naturally and somtimes some boys/girls were still naked from showering. Nothing actually changed in the time I was at school but times move on.
In the UK its extremely rare for people to shower after gym/Pe class anymore so nudity never occurs..Is this the same in other countries?
Apologies, I'm not a part of this group but thought I'd give you the US answer.
Showers after PE in middle school ( 6th-8th grades or 7th-9th... depending on what state you're in) are almost non-existent. Almost all the shower facilities have been removed from the athletic departments with the exception of the coaches' offices/areas. According to our grandson, HS showers are still in place but rarely used. He wanted to shower after Cross Country and baseball but didn't want the ridicule he witnessed others getting.
I was on a school board for 8 years in the mid 80's to mid-90's. When I was first elected to the school board, we were discussing what to do with the shower areas in the boys and girls locker rooms and the locker room areas. Parents didn't want their kids to shower with other kids, kids didn't want to shower or even change clothes for PE. Though they were still required to change into PE attire for the class, we received lots of complaints of bullying and harassing of students changing clothes. Ultimately, that entire area was remodeled and re-purposed, including the showers, which hadn't been used in a few years before I was elected.
HS's still have showers and locker rooms. With HS sports, they are still a necessity, but the showers are seldom used. Bullying, hazing, harassing, belittling ... keep kids from performing personal hygiene. Our daughter teaches HS and she lights candles and has plug in air fresheners in her classroom to mask the smell of these students who refuse to shower or clean up after PE. My opinion, these parents that refused to have their kids practice personal hygiene need to spend a day in these classrooms without the air fresheners and scented candles!
I showered in middle school and all through HS ('65-'71) ... all the time! In HS, I had a job and even if we had locker room chalkboard practice, I took a shower afterwards before going to work, lots of us did. In middle school, it was mandatory and so we did it and never questioned it. If we had or we refused, we'd pay hell when we got home to our mom's and dad's. Different way of life back then.
Indeed. When I was in my mid-teens in the '60s in the United States Midwest, we certainly showered together, and naked. When I taught that age in the '80s in California, there were cobwebs in the shower rooms.
By then, high school students were not even changing clothing for PE -- much less taking showers.

Not as much as used to, i remember showering and changing after PE and swimming. They should do it more to normalise being naked and remove any shaming
I was at school in the mid 80s. After swimming we were all in a single large room for changing. After PE showering was encouraged for everyone.
For me it meant a lot of the body confidence was higher and for me it carried on.
It's odd... despite the prevalence of naked bodies in the celebrity and media scene, young people seem to be more insecure than they were in the past. I don't get it.
The celebrities and media feed the negative self body image because the celebrities have to and are paid to look good and the media focuses on the supposed perfect bodies. In addition, the fashion industry feeds it too. So people feel they dont live up to the supposed perfect body (extremely few people could) so they dont have the self confidence to show theirs.
I think that it's because we generally see only attractive, perfect naked or near-naked bodies of celebrities. So the average Joe or Jane feels that they have to hide their imperfect bodies as much as possible, because there's no way they can come up to that standard unless they're gym rats. (And almost all of those celebrities are gym rats, because that's part of their job description.)
