The scene has definitely changed.
Growing up in the 70s and 80s, everyone showered in a socially free environment - nudity was not an issue.
Us kids back then had no qualms about stripping off in front of others.
These days it's a totally different scenario.
Young people generally won't get naked in front of anyone else in the changing rooms.
They either hide themselves away in a cubicle (if there is one) or they will wrap a towel around their middle and perform a sort of
gymnastics move to get their clothes on and off without anyone seeing their privates.
From what I have been told, they say it's "gay" if someone sees you naked (and sees your genitals) - "gay" being their word for something that is negative, undesirable, bad etc.
This 'idea' is passed around from person to person, a sort of social engineering 'peer pressure' thing.
It seems to start from around the age of 8 or 9 and continue on into the teens.
What they are essentially doing is teaching themselves that the human body is something to be ashamed of, and the effects of this are long-reaching and can last well into adulthood.
It also makes me wonder what sort of conflicts are going on in their minds. If the word 'gay' is used to mean something bad, then by definition they must believe that being gay (homosexual) is also bad, undesirable etc.
It's no wonder the current generation is suffering from mental health issues, psychological problems etc.

I see on your post that you're trying to raise your daughter as a nudist, or at least nudist-friendly. I don't know if British Naturism has a resource for teenagers who are confronted with this identity crisis. But I do see the need for this sort of thing both here and in the UK.
It's obvious that a site like this isn't going to work for them, since it has so many posts from people who are insecure in their own body issues. I wish there was one that would be appropriate for them.
So there I was a black man from NC that was used to white women clutching their purses, looking away, or crossing the street to get away from me when I was in their presence, calmly taking a shower and washing her intimate parts with no fear. All three of these people were very friendly and invited me into their conversation. It was at this time that I realized for sure that I was a nudist and loved it!!!
This is a beautiful story about how nudism overcomes barriers and makes people less prejudiced once they are in the naked company of one another. Nudis veritas. Naked truth.
Things are changing in Canada also. Like others have said, as a teen in the early 1980s I showered in communal showers. The pool I go to still has a communal shower room and nudity is common, only few young guys do the towel dance. However, the gym at our local college where I work was renovated recently and the shower room was remodeled with cubicles. The result is that no one walks to the shower area nude anymore. There was little point covering up walking to the shower, although some did, when one was in plain view in the showers. The cubicles are suppose to make it more comfortable for every one, consideration for various cultural background. Thing is, I haven't noticed any difference in the number of guys showering after their workout since the renovation. About half do, half don't.
I agree! I wish people werent sensitive and judge mental over it. I will never understand. I use to work outdoor education years ago and some kids made fun of this boy who didnt wear a towel to the shower. It was horrible. They made him cry in the shower and he wouldnt come out until they all left and went back to the dorms. They called him horrible things along the lines of being gay. It infuriated me and I made sure they knew that was not ok to treat someone that way. People judge because they are insecure about their sexuality but it shouldnt matter when it comes to sexual orientation or anything.

Teens except for the eighteen and nineteen year olds are not allowed here for obvious reasons, and it would be great if younger teens had a place online for answering the difficult questions they invariably have, even if they are lucky enough to have been brought up by balanced parents they feel comfortable talking with about any subject. It is sad that no matter how careful a developer who might mistakenly attempt to offer such a website with a level of information and interaction are, there will be sick adults who exploit it and attempt to use it for their jollies. As I see it, there is no reasonable way to avoid this exploitation, so it's a non-starter. If any here can conjure up a way around this inevitability, I'd love to hear your ideas.
