It was probably a poorly executed way of conveying his nudism, but I don't think it was "out of line" per se. Assuming he conducted himself in an appropriate way and was simply nude in his own home, I'm inclined to think that the reactions of the guests (especially since they are family) were "out of line". It may be startling to encounter a family member nude, but it shouldn't be embarrassing or offensive...or even particularly remarkable at all!
It's very rude, as he invited them, he should have made them aware beforehand since nudism isn't the default setting for the vast majority of people.

Rude, yes, thoughtless, yes, but I would hardly call it exhibitionist. Since he and his brother who was there shared a house in the past and apparently didn't bother to cover for each other, he just didn't realize that his sister being there too should make a difference.
