Florida legislation

What do naturists think about the reported new Florida state law restricting the teaching of subjects like homosexuality and gender identity? Much of the reporting has been sensationalist. What difference is it likely to make in practice, and do you agree with it?

RE:Florida legislation

Since I work in Florida, it is a big deal here. None of the topics addressed in the legislation are actually "taught" as part of the instructional curricula. It is basically a political stunt to encourage certain voters to focus on cultural issues rather than policy issues. I do not work in the primary grades which is allegedly the focus of the bill, but it is written vaguely to apply across all grade levels.

I don't plan to change anything in practice. I work where we have a number of LGBTQ+ students who are worried about it though. They feel more marginalized and targeted by people who are supposed to be creating a better world for them. I don't know if it will hold up, but it is just another example of non-teachers dictating education policy.
