Maybe one in a hundred.
A friend of mine showed me some posts on Reddit, of some people in Montana planning to start a non-landed nude club, this was a recent post but he says that he sees those sorts of posts on there quite commonly, and it never really goes anywhere. I think people commonly misjudge how much work it takes to even get a few people together in a nudist situation. I've roughly calculated that out of 100 contacts you might get one person that actually follows through.
I don't know if many of you remember the MNO Montana naturist organization. They worked tirelessly for years, their website is still up although they are not active. Years ago before we started the Oasis 33, the misses and I contemplated joining the MNO. At that time they had their schedule posted, for a barbecue at Jack's place. This was before I even knew who Jack was. We only met him after we started the Oasis 33. Anyways we never did join the MNO, so we didn't make it to Jack's BBQ.
To put this in perspective of how hard it is to get nudist venues off the ground. Jack's BBQ was posted on their website, anybody in the world that went there would find it on the schedule, the MNO membership was only 25 bucks per year. The barbecue had been posted for at least a year in advance. One person was all that followed through, that was Dave, so it was Jack his wife and Dave out of a year's Long preparation. And the barbecue was free, and it was just outside of Billings so location shouldn't have been an issue.
In Montana there's a lot of people that will show interest, but very few that will actually follow through, and even fewer when following through involves them paying. On the other hand that can be handy as a vetting process, make them pay first before you spend time with them. And that's generally the direction we try to go in. And the rate of follow through improves greatly if you're dealing with someone that's already in a nudist organization like TN. But to just deal with the general public that contact us through the website, the chances of any of them actually following through with anything is slim to nothing.
The last time that we had Auggie Fest I believe that the final headcount ended up being around 50 that showed. In the months building up to the event, we were contacted by hundreds of people. Multiply that by a few emails back and forth, you're getting near a thousand exchanges of dialogue. Obviously I'm not blaming those people that didn't come follow through, they all have their own reasons. And we were advertising for the event so numerous replies at least means the advertising is reaching people.
Another bleak statistic, the last Auggie Fest fewer than 1/3 were residents of Montana. Throughout the course of this club, we have had far more members from California then we have gotten from Billings montana. Isn't that strange!
The only reason that we started the Oasis 33 is because there were no other places offering a nude venue. Our intent was to promote a nude recreation, that's why we post other nearby nudist venues on our website, it's now been moved to the reservations page. That and other nudist places make our place seem less abnormal to locals.
It's no wonder that nudist places are closing faster than they open. Other states have higher population, Montana is only a million, most states are multiple million in population, but I'm sure that the rate of the customer contact versus follow through is probably still in the range of 1 out of 10 to 1 out of 100. It's interesting to think that for every one person you see at a nudist event the owners/managers/organizers have dealt with somewhere between 10 to 100 people to have that one person there.
The silver lining I can think of, The Oasis 33 has been active for 7 years and I've noticed the rate of contacts versus serious interested persons has actually improved significantly. Although we aren't keeping as much of an accurate count as we were in the beginning.
