Any ideas on less expensive places near the beach?the motel we have stayed at before has been tore down I was told.

Head north of Haulover on A1A towards Hollywood, plenty of motels around there, it's only a few minutes drive. Motel 6 on Dania Beach is popular too, about 15 mins north of Haulover.
