Has anyone else ever taken a bath on a train?
Return to DiscussionsWhen I have the time, I often prefer a nice soak to a shower, so our bath tub gets a lot of use. My wife and I decided to book a luxury train on a trip from Johannesburg to Cape Town, the celebrated Blue Train. This is like a 5-star historic hotel on rails, with polished wood and brass interiors, world-class dining, and even a jewelry shop on board. She indulged me by booking a room whose private bathroom featured a bath tub. I neglected to mention, I am a bit of a romantic when it comes to rail travel I love the train, especially antique trains. So this was a triple indulgence: luxurious service, old-time rail travel, and to top it off, a nice warm bath. Has anyone else taken a bath on a moving train?
I have taken a shower on the Rovos Train from Cape Town to Pretoria (Blue Train competitor) but I dont remember whether it had a tub or just a shower stall. I am very inflexible so I dont do well in bathtubs anywhere. The Rovos Train was also luxurious. Men had to wear a coat and tie and women had wear comparable evening wear to dinner. It was elegant. I cant say enough good things about the Rovos Train.
