Artistic Photos

This is a place to post your "artistic" photos for others to view and enjoy. However you choose to define "artistic" is up to each individual. The genesis of this idea for me was having taken some shadow/silhouette photos, wanting to share them, but not really knowing where to post them. They are "soft" nude photos that are more provocative than explicit. Hoping...

I've always loved doing nature photos as a hobby, but have been very interested in adding nudes to nature. However, it seems to be exceptionally difficult finding models for this. As it would seem, being a single guy has a rather negative stereotype attached of being a pervert only looking for cheap thrills! Does anyone have any helpful hints or first hand insight on this subject?

What if you approach a Life Model Class, and put your case to one of the models there? Mike.

RE: Hobby Photography

I must admit I found it easier finding models (of either sex) when living in France than on my return to live in the UK but, as with all 'people' pictures, it is important to establish a relationship between photographer and model and this takes time and effort. From the photographer's point of view it is also necessary to be able to show evidence of previous work and a portfolio of prints is the best way of doing this although I have on occasion used an online version. All this is in order to gain the trust of the potential model and an understanding of what both parties want to achieve from the session. It is also for this reason that I always use a Model Release so that there is no doubt in either party's mind what the resultant photos are going to be used for. I much prefer to do this at a preliminary meeting in a public place such as a coffee shop and then allow a cooling off period before the actual shoot but if this is not possible for reasons of e.g. distance then chatting over the net seems to achieve the same purpose. As to the actual shoot one should always be aware of the model's needs - refreshments, warmth, comfort breaks etc - as a model who is not happy will not produce good photos. Always check over your photographic equipment in good time and at least have an idea in your head of what the two of you want out of the session. Apart from that, my best advice is to keep that shutter clicking!

RE: Hobby Photography

I have been trying to recruit models for my artwork for months. For a group that praises the beauty of the nude human. For an organization that espouses the freedom of the nude human form. For a society that brags about displaying the nude human form. The only volunteers I've recruited are all well past their prime and most severely over weight.
I have seen none of the beauty. Fear instead of freedom. Hiding instead of exhibiting. And a lot of juvenile games.
I recently signed up at ModelMayhem.Com. And I literally found a model over night. They expect professional behavior and you may have problems getting in until you have 3 examples of your work. On the other hand it is possible for non-members to post a shoot. And you will do better recruiting if you pay them. But some of the inexperienced members will pose nude for free for a disk of the images.

One problem is having your profile set to private. This prevents fellow naturists in knowing who you are and where your from. I too do a lot of amature photograpphy and like to photograph the human form especialy in a natural setting. Almost every one I have done are of either friends or Contacts from TN who want photos for a portfolio. Some have put the phots I have done onto theirfile on here. (Fame at last ha ha ha ha )Also what Mike says is goodadvice. so tread carefully, and enjoy your photography.

Thanks guys, all this feedback is great! Since my subject has always been nature I've never had to consider a lot of these things. I really appreciate all of it.
