Politics and nudity?

Do you think any USA politician could get elected supporting more nude beaches/parks for nude recreation? German, yes. French, yes. Spanish, yes. In USA?

In the USA? Nice thought but no serious national candidate would dare touch the "third rail" of more public nudity. The evangelicals would crucify anyone that tried that. But, as I said - it would be a wonderful to actually have happen.

As long there is no presure from society aboute nudist/naturists minority there will be no political sujestion of low legalaize nudism/naturism ]no one will fight for oure rights besides ourself.

RE: Politics and nudity?

The US is a complex society with many different groups. Some may wonder how the country can work despite
this. I personally believe that the US
accomplishes what it does based on its diversity, particularly among the
immigrants.

Its hard to bridge over differences to work together. Perhaps it would be easier without clothes to
hide behind. However, politicians are
more about creating division than unity.
When you combine that with the Puritanical belief that nakedness is
animalistic founded the US, theres not much in favor of body acceptance changing
soon. My hope lies in how people will be
sick and tired of something for years and then overnightpoofthe world
suddenly changes, and no one saw it coming. In the meantime, let us be evangelists fo
being clothed in the sun.

RE: Politics and nudity?

We could start in places where nudity is already accepted (Haulover Beach, Sandy Hook, etc.) and point out to the local governments that the nude areas are quite popular and it would make sense to expand them, especially if surrounding non-nude areas don't get as much traffic. It would help if we point out how much extra business the nude area attracts (local dining, parking fees, other shopping, etc.) so as to get the local business owners on our side as well. It won't be quick, necessarily, but keeping constant pressure on can wear down opposition. And don't think that the nude area opponents won't be applying pressure to shrink the areas - it's not necessarily a case of doing nothing and keeping what we've got.

It might be better for state and local politicians to come out for more open policies on nudity at the smaller local level. That's how it worked in Vermont and now it's legal everywhere. So then you end up with local police and state Park Rangers all enforcing the laws protecting nudity, even if they don't personally feel comfortable with it. Bernie Sanders didn't make the laws work, but he and other politicians either supported policies or helped push them through. It's tough to make things happen on a huge federal level with such a diverse society. But states are more manageable. That being said, I live in New Hampshire, right next to Vermont, and even though their state has laws protecting nudity I don't know how you could begin to get those laws passed in N.H. but I still think it would be easier than trying to do it nationally.

In a (very) few states this is possible. I am thinking of Oergon, for example. That is a very free thinking place and a position on liberalized nude laws would hardly raise an eyebrow there.

I did not know about Vermont's story!! Wow. Is there an article to recommend how they did it? Did AANR help with their resources? And, yes. Local level makes sense. Oregon great starter. Thanks for all the great writing and thought y'all gave to the topic!! Nude best to all!!

"politicians are more about creating division than unity." a very astute observation.
