Paddling Lake Ontario

Return to Discussions

Though I wasn't able to strip down, because I was paddling with a non-nudist who isn't aware of my naturist leanings, I made my first Lake Ontario excursion of the year. Had the water been warmer I probably would have gone for a swim, especially when I saw what looked like a fishing lure snagged on a rock. While being able to see to the bottom was nice, it is sad to see how badly zebra and quagga mussels have altered the lake's eco-system.
Ever time I paddle the lake I feel the urge to start paddling to the far shore and back. Think I might have to research whether any one has paddled all the way across.

a few years back there was a man in his 60s who paddled across Lake Michigan 65 miles took 12 hours ... had his stuff together. was people in the newspaper thought he shouldn't because it 'was dangerous' it was big deal. he spent the night at a motel and paddled back to Michigan the next day. people now days don't understand sea kayaking capabilities. clearly the man was an expert and very fit. picked his weather and had safety gear. i though he was great. cgwow that would be a cool adventure, i guess i'd try lake Michigan before Superior.

I am still working on developing the skill and don't own a good sea kayak yet so I won't be paddling off to the opposite shore just yet.

Have paddled Ontairo several times. Most often between Lyndonville and Oswego, but have occasionally gotten up to Selkirk. Most often have been able to shed my shorts and Donald Duck for the day, as I usually just go with my husband. One occasion when kayaking with a female friend, I asked if she would mind. She said no and joined me by going topless. Was wonderful!

I have sailed across it many times at night in the annual Scotch Bonnet race. Also nude sailing during the day in the summer sun about 4 miles off shore is always nice!I have yet to sail on Lake Ontario but since learning to sail last summer I am hoping that I will get a chance to sail the lake this summer.

It's an awesome sailing lake. Assume you paddle in the canal too? I lived on the canal just two ports west of you until I moved to AZ. Your assumption would be correct. Spend a lot of time on the Canal kayak fishing.
