CAUGHT IN THE NUDE IN PUBLIC

This group is here for the people who have been caught naked in public or by an unexpected person.

Caught in my spot by the river in NW Arkansas

Return to Discussions

There is a place that I go to skinny-dip when the water is warm enough and just lay in the sun in my hammock when winter comes. A week ago I was engaged in the latter activity and I was walking around collecting the litter some tweakers had thoughtlessly scattered about. I was not paying attention to the denuded state of the trees and how that was exposing my denuded state to the bridge that spans the river. Some motorist called the police to report indecent exposure and their response time was quick enough to allow them to also view me still collecting trash in the buff. They parked and walked down to my spot. By the time they arrived I had seen them coming and dressed and gotten in my hammock and was reading. This was out of their view. They were examining my parked car and the pile of trash I'd collected. I decided I did not want to surprise them so I hollered out "hello?" and let them know where I was. They came over any questioned me. Said they'd seen me stark naked in view of the roadway and that was against the law. I said I was sunning out of sight but had been bothered by the litter and had been remiss in not dressing before collecting it, but had not anticipated going out of cover to retrieve it. One cop was suspicious that the litter might Be mine since there were numerous cans of Dust Off which is apparently used by meth heads. I assured him that I had never used any drug and that there was any even bigger pile of these cans further along the dirt drive. He went off to investigate. The other officer was very polite but took down my name and phone number (and I assume car license plate) in his notepad and said they would charge me if they received another complaint. My state has the nation's strictest anti-nudity statutes, so I must be more careful. The darn fall hasd stripped my cover from the normally lush trees and bushes that line the river bank.
Anyway, I was grateful to get off with a friendly warning. I suppose it might have been worse if I hadn't managed to be legal before being confronted by Johnny Law.

This is among the worst understatements I've ever read.My state has the nation's strictest anti-nudity statutes. In Arkansas, it's illegal to promote nudity. Saying something positive about nudity is against the law -- as is distributing nudity positive literature. It's illegal to be seen nude by a member of the opposite sex unless that person is your legally married spouse or is a member of the medical community who is providing some form of medical treatment or exam that requires nudity. The Arkansas anti-nudity law repeatedly violates both the US Constitution and the Arkansas Constitution.

And this is not merely out in public. These laws apply even in your own home among consenting adults.

I'm 73 years old and have decided to hell with this law which in itself illegal. I don't run around outside nude but in my home myself and anyone else who wish to be nude and comfortable are welcome to be. There a sign on my front door stating ( don't ask us to dress for your comfort ). Anyone wishing to share nude time are welcome and I do mean anyone. And yes I answer the door nude.

This is also the reason I have not gone to those places myself yet, I live close to Goshen in AR, I live close to some of those sites and hope to visit them soon.

A significant concern. Even when inside my own home I'm always psycho about making sure there isn't a crack of sunlight to be seen through a drapery. I don't need an indecent on my record.

That's insane. I would HOPE this is some ancient law that needs to be removed from the books??

Some states require a person charged being nude to be registered as a sex offender!

RE:Caught in my spot by the river in NW Arkansas they passed a law that made illegal to try to change the law as well.

Not as old as you might think. I believe the Arkansas law was written in the 50s.

The story I read goes something like this.

Some people who owned several acres put up a chain link fence around their property. They then hung canvass on both sides of the fence to assure that no one could see in. They then invited some friends to came visit and enjoy being nude inside and out. Those friends told others, who told others, etc.

It soon became very popular. Other people made the conscious decision to be offended by the fact that people were being nude where no one else could see them. And push to get laws added to make it illegal.
