Reading Genesis without our current presuppositions.

One of the things that people seldom realize is that what they learn is always filtered through their existing presuppositions. Our shame of nudity culture came into existence sometime after the completion of the Bible. Presuppositions will cause even Bible reading Christians to misread Genesis on this point.
After eating from the tree Adam was afraid because he was naked. Did God ever command Adam to clothe himself? The answer is no, what he did command was not to eat from that tree. The fear came from disobeying Gods commandment. Adam being naked was only an effect of the real cause that is disobedience. Adam then tried to hide himself because of his new knowledge. After locating Adam God then asked the question did you eat from the tree? Adam was now ashamed at having been caught in his disobedience.

And the sheepskin robes provided afterwards were due to chilly nights, and the lack of temperature regulation provided by their pre-sin body energy field. They were provided garments but not commanded to use them. Which they did when needed, and I'm sure didn't when it got too warm for them. God told Adam he would earn his bread with the sweat of his face. If anybody thinks he would have kept that warm sheepskin with it's wool on while doing that kind of work, they're crazy.

Some people then take a simple interpretation of Noahs nakedness and the curse on Ham and Canaan. Which makes no sense. Men have seen men naked for all of history and it was nothing. For such a curse to be pronounced a grievous sin had to have been done.

It strikes me that Adam (and Eve) had an innocence like a child before they ate what we call the apple (actually the fruit from the tree of knowledge). That knowledge caused them to hide their sexual organs, ashamed of the pleasure deep inside. Jesus was right in saying we should be like little children to understand fully. Unfortunately maturity brings prejudices and inhibitions that get in the way. So, lets be like those children, free, uninhibited and naked to enjoy life anew. It also strikes me that many of the restrictive rules and standards set by today's religion are not far from those set by the scribes and pharmacies of Jesus' day.
