What would it mean to have a David and Jonathan relationship?

Just wondering. I think they had the ultimate in male bonding

Yes, and I think it is important to note that men could do that back then. As much as it would appeal to me to believe that David and Jonathan were a homosexual couple, that doesn't fit with the evidence of David's numerous wives and female concubines. More telling is the fact that homophobia became so pervasive that men who dare to be as close as David and Jonathan were are, in our day and age, thought to be gay -- because so many men today are so afraid of being perceived as gay, they don't dare get involved that deeply with a male friend. The term "bromance" is a modern one, as if it is a new thing; but I believe it is just a rediscovery of something that was once normal.

It would mean you care for each other, support each other, and maybe even die for each other. Johnathan could have been king if his motives were selfish. Instead, he let his best friend become king. This does not take into account that, lead by the Spirit, he knew who was going to be king after his father.

It was accepted in some cultures at that time, but not the Hebrews.
