Starting the Summer Out Right

Return to Discussions

Hello to all,

There's not been much activity in this group so I thought I'd post a short description of a hike I made last week. June 1st, the weather gods looked kindly on us as summer returned (can hardly believe it was snowing a few short weeks ago!). As luck would have it, my schedule aligned with the good weather and I was able to get out to Plainview, my favorite spot for a week day naked stroll. Because I've written about this spot in the past, I won't go into detail about the terrain but instead share a few thoughts on the joys of naked hiking.

On this Thursday, the area was very quite and I was able to strip down at the car and did not dress until I returned. Many times, there are others in the area and I'll walk a few yards down the trail before disrobing, not this time. In the past, I've noticed abundant wildlife in the area but this trip, wildlife was as scarce as the humans usually found in the area save for a distant "kee kee kee" of the local Magpies. Disappointing but all in all, not a bad compromise.

With all the recent precipitation, wild flowers were blooming in abundance but surprisingly enough, the flats and foothills were not as green as I expected. At this time in year's past, the area was carpeted in lush greenery but not so much this year. Still green, just not as intense as usual. None the less, I felt very fortunate to be able to experience this area sans clothes. It's a feeling like no other.

As I made my way around the loop, I once again found myself mentally calculating the distance of this hike. Because the area is relatively compact, I'd always assumed it was around 3 to 3.5 miles round trip but had never attempted to measure it. This time however I was armed with an activity tracker and looked forward to seeing how accurate my guesses had been. Interestingly enough, when I finally dressed for my return to the textile world, my tracker showed 3.7 miles validating my previous estimates. Not a bad naked hike considering Denver's skyline is visible on the eastern horizon and I could almost count the cars on Hwy 93 a mile or so distant. I had to wonder how many passing on the road would have joined me naked had they only known such a place exists within eye-shot of their commute. As it always does, my hike ended way too soon and I returned to "normal" life albeit much more relaxed and peaceful than when I arrived.

I hope any who read this post will enjoy it and become inspired to share their own naked adventures with those of us who have a passion for naked hiking in Colorado (or any place for that matter).

Keep the sun on your cheeks,

Fish
