It's Monday; summer is winding down in the northern US, and I don't like to think about it. It was a nice weekend, but I sure didn't want to go in to the office, and you could tell by how slowly I was moving this morning. Then, inspiration struck. It was a rare no-meetings day. I can do my job most days from anyplace that has a good internet connection, and I always bring my laptop home. The manager of our little group allows us to work from home, but unfortunately only for special occasions.
So, I invented one, implying in an email that I needed to stay close to a bathroom today. And I'll be pretty close - working at the dining room table and looking at the back yard bird feeders. My previous job let us work from home one day a week. Mine was usually Friday, and of course I'd work full naked for the whole 8 or 9 hours whenever I could. I really miss my Very Casual Fridays.
I like to greet one of the first warm, sunny days of summer by taking a cup of coffee onto the back patio and enjoying it as the sun warms my whole body (you have to live in the Snow Belt to understand how significant those first warm mornings are). The school principal on one side is at work and the other vehicle is gone too, so her husband must have found a job again, so I will take a morning coffee break out there and bid farewell to warm summer mornings for another year.
