Question For All The Long Time Nudists
Return to DiscussionsWhen I first became a nudist in 1979, I joined a local nudist club. The focus back then was enjoying good company, recreation and the sun. Fast forward to today, it seems like a lot of nudists are more focused on themselves and how they look. Shaving, being inked, pierced, etc consume a lions share of discussions and blogs on T/N and other forums. Am I off base on this? Have any of you "old timers" like me noticed such a shift in priorities and attitudes?

When I first joined the naturist movement it was all about body acceptance - tall, short, fat, thin, old or young. I found it most wonderfully illustrated with the acceptance of disfigurement and even colostomy bags. It was a genuine freedom.
Yes, I think times have changed and not just within naturism. Where once all a chap needed to wash was a bar of soap and a bottle of shampoo, now a full grooming kit is required. There is now a real need to match the photoshopped models that sell these products.
I think there is now an expectation within society for everyone to be body aware and aspire to a strange perfection.
It's too much to hope that naturism could remain intellectually aloof to this pressure and so yes, I think there is now a lot moreemphasison appearance and decoration, and sadly, less tolerance of those that don't match up.
