I had a similar experience with a PA ring. Laying on my back on a very hot, sunny day the ring was burning my urethra. It was a 0 gauge seamless ring that required an Allen wrench to remove (which I didn't have).
When did your skin bridge split? I think you posted the picture. Looked like a subincision. Great look
Never noticed anything with my stainless rings apart from the glint in the sun. Perhaps the metal composition makes a difference. I understand Levi's jeans originally also had a crotch rivet until they received unfavourable reports from those who like to sit by a campfire.
