Return to DiscussionsI always think about how great it would be to work out nude while
at my gym. It seems like such a natural idea - the ancient
greeks had it right. But alas, it's not permitted.
This summer, I had the opportunity at long last. While
attending the GNI Gathering (Gay Naturists International), I used
the gym several times. Being a nude event, there was no
question of needing to wear clothing. What an outstanding
feeling to work out completely nude!
Has anyone else had similar opportunities?
Several years ago two nudist groups in my area, one for men and one for man/woman couples, co-sponsored an event once a month that they called "Hot, Sweaty and Wet" (a great name). It was held after hours on a Saturday night at a small old health club in an inner-ring suburb. They put sheets over the lobby windows and members and guests paid 10 bucks to use the entire facility nude for 3 or 4 hours.
A friend brought me there twice, and it was the best social nudity thing I've ever done. It had been years since I'd done any nude swimming, and I loved experiencing the unique feeling again. The hot tubs, of course, were well-used, and many people cycled though the saunas and a steam room; it didn't matter whether you used showers in the men's or women's locker room, although I admit it took a moment to adjust my mind to seeing a woman walk past the urinals to use the shower. A volleyball court was on an upper level, and games there were always well-attended.
My favorite part was getting to fulfill a long-time desire to work out on real gym equipment while nude, and here all it took was putting a towel on the seat of the benches and weight machines. I thought it was really wonderful.
For some reason they don't do it anymore; that little gym may have closed. But I'm so fortunate to have been able to attend. It seems as though this wouldn't be such a difficult thing for one or more groups to arrange again, especially if there are any privately-owned facilities left.
