Salt water jacuzzi?

Return to Discussions

So me and the wife use our jacuzzi nearly every day. We love it and is one of the few places the Mrs enjoys nudity with me. I use bromine as a sanitizer but was thinking that a salt water jacuzzi might be better for the skin and less exposure to harsh chemicals.
Has anyone here converted their jacuzzi to salt water? I see lots of lots out there, but not clear if it make sense for daily use. The article online vary as it produces natural chlorine (not sure if that is different from man-made chlorine). Also, is it really better for the skin? I would love to hear anyones experience.

RE:Salt water jacuzzi?

I switched to salt water 5 or 6 years ago and love it. I bought the Saltron Mini Salt System Drop-In Saltwater Chlorine Generator and use Dead Seas Mineral Salts. My skin feels so soft and I don't feel the need for an immediate shower afterward. I also found that once I get the Ph, Alkalinity and hardness balanced after a water change, I don't have to adjust them again. You use salt test strips to determine you have enough salt in the water for the conversion process. The amount of initial salt you have to use is based on the size of your hot tub. I usually have to add on only a cup more of salt over the summer season. It took a couple of weeks to determine how long to leave the generator on for the best chlorine balance. I still use a non-chlorine shock, about 1 tablespoon per week, to keep the water crystal clear. I have replaced the Generator Cell (the part that converts salt to chlorine) once since moving to salt. You may have to replace your heating element. I replaced mine twice before researching that I should use a titanium one due to the salt. I installed it last year so don't know how long it will last.

@tos1966 thanks. It sounds like you felt it was a good move. Also thanks for the tip on the heating element.
