I have been going to the same gym almost daily for over a decade to swim, sometimes sauna (mixed clothed). So I have got to know a few of the regulars, but usually only get to chat in the locker room or sauna so do not know any of then as firm friends. I do not spend a lot of time in the locker room naked, but do wear a minimal swimsuit (aussiebums half inch wj loose), walk from the shower with just my towel around my neck, and will start a conversation whilst naked in a locker room where nudity is not usually the norm. One of my older mates who I have only once seen naked once told me to put it away in the middle of a conversation, another younger one made sure not to drop his underwear until the conversation ended and I was leaving, another middle-aged who doesnt seem to understand personal space (has seen me naked often, but I have never seen him in less than compression shorts) came and sat right next to me to don his shoes when I was about to drop my pants the other night. I chatted rather than drop my pants. As a nudist it felt counter-intuitive, but I didn't want to have my penis in his face. I don't want to become known as the creepy old naked guy.
What would you have done?
Have you ever got a negative comment in the locker room?
Have you ever got a positive comment in the locker room?
Do many people converse whilst naked in the locker room?

RE:Comments / conversation in the locker room

You mention guys in their 40s. I'm turning 44 soon and I honestly could care less about another guy in the locker room seeing me naked. Nor am I bothered by seeing another guy naked. It's a male sanctuary and we all have the same parts in there. It's not just because I identify as nudist; it's also because we're all guys and there's no reason to be shy, at least that's my take on it.

At 44, yes, I have enough self-confidence in my own nudity and my body to be able to stand there naked and talk to you, whether you are clothed or also nude. But for the most part, it's just at this point in my life, I have seen enough, done enough and know enough to know that life is far too short to be bugged by someone being uncomfortable seeing my penis. I have more to life to worry about at this juncture in my life than being seen in my underwear or less. If anyone -- male or female -- sees me in my briefs or without them on, it just doesn't bother me. I don't get stressed over it because I've got finances, I've got career, I've got social, I've got love life, etc. etc. etc. Twenty years ago I would have been pretty close to the same mind set, but maybe a little less indifferent to my own nudity.

The locker room I used after swimming recent has open showers and an open floor plan. The swim was an adult swim that was pretty much open to whatever you wanted, with the option of lessons, concentrating on swimming laps, but still available for whatever you wanted to do. It was usually just me and an older gentleman in his 70s after the time was up. Both of us had no problem being naked in the locker room, or showering in the open showers.

The only thing I made sure to do, since it was just the two of us, was to put a single shower space between us, for unspoken etiquette and personal space-related issues. Other than that? The two of us chatted each time we exited the pool, neither of us concerned about our nudity. The way it should be with men. I admit the first time or two, I was a little anxious, but when I saw how comfortable he was, and how he wasn't bothered with me seeing him or him seeing me, it just became another "guy thing" and it was just two men getting themselves clean after a swim and socializing. We just happened to be socializing underneath the shower heads and in the locker room, sans clothing.

Basically as you get older you stop giving a crap. You learn to accept that you may or may not get back to the body that you had in your earlier years, but you learn to become comfortable with what you have as well. Sure, I wouldn't mind being "bigger" in the penis department, or losing a few pounds off of my stomach, or getting some muscle in the arms or legs. But as life has moved on, so have I, and that includes the maturity to see others naked and not be bothered or care. If I did, I wouldn't call myself nudist, or attend nudist gatherings. The (mens') locker room is just a smaller extension of all of that thinking.

response?

I just kept talking and getting dressed at my normal rate.

He has never passed another comment since, so I reckon he's accepted I will not towel dance.
