Nudist or exhibitionist?

Return to Discussions

So we all like to show our naked bodies (or we wouldn't be in this group). Yes it includes our most intimate parts, our faces, identities and personalities. But which are we first - Nudist or Exhibitionist? To me a Nudist gets naked and (often) does not mind others seeing them naked. An Exhibitionist actively wants to be exposed for all to see, fellow nudists , textiles, anyone! I am both and maybe a bit more towards the exhibitionist end. BTW that's me in the group photo. Someone had me sussed.

RE:Nudist or exhibitionist?

Though nudity and exhibitionism both deal with the discarding of clothes, there is a definite marked difference in the two states of mind. In the former one is just comfortable in one's own skin and is not affected in any way by the presence of other naked or clothed people around. In exhibitionism the person gets a thrill or seeks gratification by exposing themselves deliberately to others, seeking to draw attention or create a sensation to their nakedness. For nudists , being naked on their own is comfortable enough and they do not seek any reaction from others . An exhibitionist always needs someone else to show themselves to and is keen on seeing their reaction. Doing a dare is not considered exhibitionism but just naughty fun!

I agree with your definitions and a such I am not an exhibitionist. But I'd add this. Part of the sense of "liberation" I get from being around others nude is just that, allowing myself to be just out there exposed to others who are also nudists and enjoy the same experiences. I have always loved the feeling of being nude, especially in the open air and sun, but it was not until recent years where I experienced the liberating good feelings of being with others who accept it for the good and normal state it is.

RE:Nudist or exhibitionist?

This is an interesting discussion. A lot of people are caught by surprise when I say that believe it or not exhibitionism isn't just about sex and bodies or even nudity, I also like to sing in front of people too. . . . . The root of it is that I love to share myself with others even when it's unflattering. But since I'm also passionate about being naked while alone it truly is difficult for me to decide where I lean the most, I'm just having and not afraid to enjoy being both. :-)

Like you, I find this an interesting discussion and one that can just keep on going--each of us has his/her own thoughts on the subject.

I have trouble with the word "Exhibitionist", even though I likely fit some peoples' description of one. "Swingers" is another word I don't quite accept; I recently read a comment referring to close-up pics as being more suited for TN's sister site, True Swingers. Along with "Exhibitionist" I don't feel comfortable with "Swinger", since as far as online nudist photos both terms are negative as well as judgmental.

Personally I prefer adjectives like "Erotic" and "Free Spirited", if anyone is going to label my nude photos, at least both terms are positive! As far as erotic, that is really in the eyes of the viewer. Nudist photos are what they are, a depiction of how we nudists live everyday life. If one views my photos as being erotic, I'm fine with having achieved that, but it doesn't make one an exhibitionist! As to close-ups, I have a lot of categories of things I photograph. One example might be Architecture--I not only photograph entire buildings but also details such as doorways and chimneys. Similarly with nude pics--I may want to do "nudist themed" photos--perhaps one time series of different elbows, another time a series of my penis in close-ups. If the photographer is, indeed, an artist, then who's to judge what is or isn't appropriate??

all the time we are exibitionnist
when we choose nice clothes it's because we want other look us
So yes when we are nude we could say that we are exibitionnist
we say with our body this is us , true , no make up an we are happy to show our freedom life
this is erotic too but clothes have also an erotic power
Excuse my bad english im french

To me I am a nudist as I am just going around nude, but most people are exhibitionists in the way they dress including been inked hairstyles cloths they have on the way they walk etc and we all do this but we choose when we can to do this without any cloths, on and that is the only difference to a what most people call a normal person.

I think this is true. But this site invites people who like to share social nudism. When I am nude at home no one sees me. That is fine. When I am with other nude people it's not the same as being at home.

RE:Nudist or exhibitionist?

I consider myself both. I have been to nude beaches and did not wear anything and there were other guys naked and clothed and also there were women there naked and clothed as and I was not embarrassed to be seen naked by any one that were there clothed. I don't mind for anyone to see me naked with the exception of my sister and my mom because they are not into nudism at all. I only like to be nude at a place that is clothing optional because the people that go there expect to see naked people. I don't answer my door naked because I don't want to offend anyone. I have often fantasized about being naked while answering the door but I don't have the nerve because my peep hole is the good enough to see thru and if it ever was a kid that would not be the best situation. I don't have a problem with nudity when kids are around as long as it is ok with the parents and they are being raised as naturist. I am also an exhibitionist because I fantasize that I am in a room with everyone being clothed and I am the only one that is naked. I do love for people to see me naked even though I don't have six pack abs.. lol.. Doesn't have to be any sexual stuff going on. But if they wanted me to get a erection then I would do it because I would not have a problem with that. I like be watched in all sorts of arousal getting my self there and finishing it as well but doesn't have to be that way it is whatever they want me to do.

RE:Nudist or exhibitionist?

This is an interesting question. When the term "exhibitionist" is used it generally has negative connotations, and that is probably because, as someone mentioned in a previous comment, there is some degree of excitement or self gratification from being seen nude. It seems to me that the location of one's nudity (are nude people expected there) determines whether it is "bad nudity" and should be considered "exhibitionism". Clearly being nude in one's home is acceptable. Being naked at a nude beach or naturist resort is acceptable, because others who go there expect that there will be nude people around.; and I don't believe that others would consider someone who gets nude in a social setting to be an exhibitionist. However, being naked on a train or in a public building is not acceptable as the public has no expectation of seeing nude people in those locations; and anyone who gets naked is a situation like that would be considered an exhibitionist.
