Would you shave for a body-building show?

Return to Discussions

I've been asked by fellow trainer at gym where I work to train with her for body-building contest. Amateur. Would be our first. Told her, sure. Have added 10 pounds so far. 10 more to add. Question. My friend now says I should shave. I said heck no. She said I'll be only furry one on stage. That I'll stand out. I laughed and said so much the better. What would you do? Fairly sure this fun furry crowd would follow suit (hirsute?).

The answer is obvious, at least if I were in that situation. Love my body hair, am proud to show it. Period!!

Indeed, I would remain hirsute! I had worked with a personal trainer some time ago. After gaining some muscle he told me I needed to shave my arms and chest so that the new muscle definitions would be more apparent. I said hell no, I do not like the look of shaved male bodies. I think he took that as a personal insult!

Thanks for your responses -- guessed this would be your reaction too. So, my theory is body-builders shave not just to show the muscle growth, but to feminize the display. Making it less-threatening, easier to sell to public. Your thoughts?

Many people consider basic man-hair as 'pubic hair.' Chest, leg, and arm hair, arm pit hair, hair on your ass cheeks, have become too male, perhaps too animalistic. That hair is considered an extension of pubic hair, and thereby a 'vulgar display' of secondary sex characteristics. So, men feminize themselves to become 'socially acceptable'.

Thanks, Sarge. Ironic that a performance built around male muscle displays requires the removal of male sexual traits. (PS: enjoyed your new pics!)

Howdy, dude! Yup, logical. Puts focus just on muscle. Maybe I'm being too harsh in thinking it's purposeful feminization. Probably my own wishful thinking to see competitions for the most masculine muscled contestants possible? Male body-building shows don't interest me as viewer much simply because a denuded male nudist looks feminine. Androgynous. Acceptable in a feminized society, but less interesting competition for me. So, you're probably right. Not feminized on purpose, just a result this nudist finds boring. LOL. Best to all, and thank you for great responses! Bob.

Every comment has merit and is well considered. As a practical chap, I would just shy away from what seem to me the almost impossible practicalities. If I lack imagination in this, I can, at least, imagine the pain!
