Normalising Nudity

A group for people with a common interest in using nudism/naturism to normalise nudity in society, and promoting healthy attitudes to the human body. We will share ideas, events, media, etc. that will help make non-sexual nudity acceptable generally and not only in reserved areas. Society's attitudes towards nudity lead to unreal expectations about appearance, shame, and ignorance of what a...

I just wonder what do you do to normalize nudity? Most people (not nudist) do not like the subject.

There is a great book to assist with this: That Famous Fig Leaf. Puts it all into perspective -- and the author is not even a nudist.

My house doesn't sit that far off the street / sidewalk and I have AANR and TNS window stickers on the front door along with a pioneer plaque welcome to earth decal. They are good discussions starters when I get visitors or sales people at my front door especially if I see them looking at them when talking . Not to mention most of my transportation have something on it about nudism.

I make sure everyone knows on a hike seeing a nudist or a skinny dipper is normal. At the beach it is better to get as much Vitamin D as possible hence less covering is good. When I working in public I take off my shirt and I wear short pants when required. In general I dress for comfort first, and when warm enough and where allowed I wear nothing. If anyone gives me its a sin type comment I simply reply there are hundreds of nude people at the Sistine Chapel and the nuns there are not offended. I am just trying to be holy.

Actually the figures behind the altar hsve been through at least 2 cycles of having clothing painted on snd removed.

The book sounds good, I will have better look in it.
Everyone knows I'm a nudist. When it comes up in a conversation. I tell about it. In the begin I leave the nudist part out. People get interested. When I bring the nudist part in it is "OH NO not for me. "
Everyone is scared about the nudity. That you after 5 minutes do not see it any more, they don't believe.

In warm weather, I almost never wear long pants and only wear a shirt where it is required. It goes on when I get there and comes off as soon as I am out the door.
One of my band colleagues sometimes wears shirts with logos of clothing optional beaches or encouraging a nudist lifestyle. That gave me a chance to confidently approach the subject with him.

RE:What is it you do

I was at my favourite CO beach a couple of days ago and saw a guy who goes there often, I had not met but decided to say hello. He was happy to meet and in for a long chat. We talked for an hour and he said another friend was coming back to the beach, he had to leave for some reason. The other guy returned and then there were 3 of us standing talking naked on the waters edge. A couple a little further along the beach went for a swim, the guy was naked his wife had a one piece on. One of the others I was with beckoned the couple over to introduce us all so then there were 4 naked guys and one woman in a bathing suit. We talked for some time, she was really calm and comfortable in the company of 3 naked men apart from he husband. I was really impressed at her being relaxed and cool in the situation, maybe she had done this before. I came away from there thinking that good things do happen and hoping to meet these people again.

Other textiles walked along the beach and saw some naked men talking on the beach, nothing was going on. It was just a group of blokes talking, albeit naked, but just talking and enjoying the sun, the ocean and the beautiful location, what could be more normal.

I always feel if you are on a nude beach or c/o beach you will see naked people. Thats normal. So no need to normalise it. I continue as normal because I feel it is. If a friend comes to my door they will expect to find me nude. I have explained I am a nudist and most feel or seem comfortable with that. I they are not I would of course respect that and cover.

Agreed that on a nude / CO beach you will see naked people. My point was a group of multiple people standing talking, enjoying the sun made it more normal for the textiles walking past. We were not individual men sitting or lying in the sun separately which some people may find strange or it may deter them from trying it. The woman in the one piece helped too as she was cool and calm and not bothered by standing there with 4 men and others walked by and saw that, I think it was a good example to set.
