Normalising Nudity

A group for people with a common interest in using nudism/naturism to normalise nudity in society, and promoting healthy attitudes to the human body. We will share ideas, events, media, etc. that will help make non-sexual nudity acceptable generally and not only in reserved areas. Society's attitudes towards nudity lead to unreal expectations about appearance, shame, and ignorance of what a...

The problem I see is that nudists as a group seem to be laid-back people. Being uptight and aggressive doesn't quite fit the nudist mindset. It seems that may be part of the reason there are not a lot of grassroots efforts to change laws and create more opportunities for people to be clothes-free if that is how they want to exercise their freedom. If pot can be legalized, why not nudity? Thought?

In a sense it is legal at CO beaches and in some other locations, but I'm guessing that is not what you mean. And I'm assuming you mean making it not illegal to be nude in public, anywhere. It would be good to be able to be naked anywhere and not be arrested but I am not really interested in walking in a popular street nude, I'm not sure we need that. Being able to be nude on lots more beaches or by rivers, lakes etc. where we swim would be good, so many more beaches etc. but is there a need to be nude in the street?

Trying to get more acceptance and having nudity less of an issue in society generally would also be good. Maybe it would help with body acceptance in society, body issues etc. and maybe it would have a positive effect on exercise and healthier eating. But do we need nudity anywhere and everywhere?

But do we need nudity anywhere and everywhere?
I'm thinkin' prolly not in Alaska during the Winter months.
Seriously though, I don't think anyone wants to force people to go naked. But it just shouldn't be a crime punishable by jail or fine either. What's wrong with letting people dress the way they want? I doubt most people will choose to walk naked down the street. But where's the harm if somebody does?

I agree. In places like New York State where women are permitted to be topless in many public places, very few are. I suspect that if nudity was allowed, few people would be fully nude.

It's just a question of bring about a change in mindsets.

But societal acceptance is not the same as legality. Note my comment on topless women in NY. Legal, but apparantly not acceptable even after being allowed for 30 years.

Easier said than done. But doing it doesn't require changing laws first, although that would be a big help. And changing mindsets, in fact, is the focus of this group. So where do we start? And where do we go from there?

RE:Activism

One thing I did to get people used to seeing naked people is I joined Facebook and used a nude photo for my profile. I had to block out my junk but it will get people used to seeing people nude so they won't be so shocked. I think if they see naked people on Facebook they'll think it's alright.

I would like to be able to be naked anywhere, not that I would but if I felt like it, I could go to the mailbox or drive naked or I would just like to have the right to be naked when I feel like it.

RE:Activism

we should bring full nudity to the mainstream
I do too but, this brings me back to my earlier "easier said than done" comment.

If a big media house has got the balls to start, the rest will follow.
First, the big media house needs incentive to start. What might that be? Like any other big business, their primary objective is, and has always been, $profit$. Without that, I don't see why they'd get on board with changing the status quo.
