Normalising Nudity

A group for people with a common interest in using nudism/naturism to normalise nudity in society, and promoting healthy attitudes to the human body. We will share ideas, events, media, etc. that will help make non-sexual nudity acceptable generally and not only in reserved areas. Society's attitudes towards nudity lead to unreal expectations about appearance, shame, and ignorance of what a...

You either like the show or don't, but the one thing it does is make nudity mainstream for hundreds of thousands of people for 40 minutes at a shot. Naked is a draw for viewers, but it is not a focus of the show. The contestants are just naked and doing what they have to. I feel that it opens minds to the idea of being naked outside, I wonder how many people have tried being naked outside because of the show. Is Naked and Afraid good or bad for Normalising Nudity?

Maybe, but the absence of unedited full body shots implies nudity is not to be seen.

I'm not a big fan of the reality shows. In fact seldom watch mainstream TV programming at all. But I've watched N & A a few times. And I'm glad something like that is finally on the air in the U.S. And I do think it is a small step towards normalizing nudity, and it demonstrates how simple nudity can be separated from sex.

Maybe, but the absence of unedited full body shots implies nudity is not to be seen.

Baby steps. Gotta learn to walk before we can run. Hopefully, someday, we'll get past the pixilation. I mean, it does look pretty dang bizarre.

The show has a lot of fans. I would be curious to know what non-nudist think of the pixelation and if they think it's necessary. I'm sure the response to that question would run the gambit, but if nudity offends you, why watch the show?

Maybe it's a bit like the old adage of "it's like watching a car crash, you can't look away". However, I don't think it does much to normalise nudity, it makes nudity a novelty, or a thrill or a risk or a challenge instead of being natural and a way of life. I think it may make people do crazy things naked in order to get attention, I don't think it does much for normalisation.

The contestants know that nothing will be shown. So they have nothing to worry about being naked on camera. But how many of us would love to be on a show that does show everything.
Naked and at Home. Or
Naked the Real Life or the old adage
Life is Short Play Naked

People who focus on nakedness rather than nudism tend to not like the show because they watch with expectation of seeing naked bodies. I watch because its a survival show where people happen to be naked. So I enjoy from the survival aspect and dont get fixated on seeing the participants pixelated bits. I see naked bodies all the time so I dont need a tv show to do that.

I do watch the show but believe its a little like sugar - tastes good but is not really that good for you.

Non-nudists are tantalised by the nudity, but often disappointed by the pixilation. But the show does open up conversation about nudity with non-nudists.

These conversations aren't always 'healthy' or helpful as I have witnessed that they can revolve around the issues of sex/sexuality and also genital injury; seemingly the two great fears of non-nudists...There can also be conversation around the contestants being 'crazy' or having some form of immoral or mental health complexity.

But on the upside I have witnessed conversations that are around whether folks would like to be nude in nature and also with a stranger, and how they would overcome these issues rather than those above.

I must also add though, when I watch the show I prefer to be nude myself...as not being nude is a little like watching my football team play and not wearing their colours!
