Nude Art Figure Models

This group is for anyone who is currently an art figure model whether for drawing, painting, sculpture or photography or who is interested in art. The purpose is to network, discuss ideas and general discussion on the subject. I have had many members ask questions about becoming an art figure model and this would be the perfect place to discuss.

How have models faired in 2011?

Return to Discussions

I am just curious to see how models have faired this year in other parts of the country. Has it been good, bad, average as far as getting gigs goes? Fell free to comment.

I am fortunate that I am regularly scheduled every semester at a number of Dallas area colleges. Over the years I have established a reputation and am able to be part of the model rotation for most of the colleges in the area. It is less frequent that I am able to find gigs with individual artists or artist groups. But I love doing it and it is a nice income supplement to my massage therapy services.

The past year has been pretty good for me, as far as modeling. Ever since I retired from my full-time job, it has given me wide open availability for the model coordinator to schedule me at the art school I model at. As Bob (NudeinMa) has said, it's a lot easier for those of us who live near a college. They strive to get a variety of body types, and I definitely offer them a different body type. :-)Anyway, 2012 has already been even better than last year because the school has added several extra sections where a nude model is needed. I've worked up to 10 3-hour sessions in a week since we went back from Christmas break. Most times it's only 4-5, but even that many is good. It keeps this old retiree busy. And I'm loving it.

For me, it's been a pretty good year here in the UK. Most of the modeling work I've picked up has been routine college work, but that has provided an even workload through the year. It also spreads through into the new year. I have done only a couple of photo assignments, but they have been high quality, and one has already been exhibited. This can be seen onhttps://www.stuartweston.com/ as part of his Altered States collection.
I've also been helping out working as a tutor for life drawing sessions that fall under the UK classification of "hen party" activities. They are usually just 1-hour beginners' lessons, attended by a group of female friends, generally as part of a pre-wedding weekend of fun. It is normal to use a young, toned male model for these sessions. For one, the model cancelled at the last moment, leaving me as both model and tutor. The 28 ladies arrived in the early afternoon after a couple of lunchtime drinks, to be greeted by the champagne that we had laid on to apologise for the lack of staff. So it was with some trepidation that I began. However, they were delightful, and a good time was had by all. I rarely get to do something for the first time nowadays, but this was one such event.
