Carrizo gorge (east of San Diego)

Got a hike scheduled for march 14, a Wednesday. Looking to meet at the trail from Dr anza resort about 930. Hike goes to the largest wooded trestle that is arched. I think this is a 3 mile out before turning back.
For those that care, Dr anza has day use (cost) when returned that can include pools, hot tub, and spa to help recuperate before leaving.

De anza and olive dell have not had a problem with me being a single guest. Don't think its my appearance, but maybe a good attitude helped.

Sounds good and would definitely go if had the day off or was a weekend. I agree as a single guest haven't had issue with olive dell or de anza in the past.

Went for the walk. Not the best day. Overcast and rain during the night with some clearing at the shore. Took mama to work, dropped the coverings, then continued to jacumba. Looked great until I started crossing the mountains. Mist and rain. Getting closer, there is openings in the clouds and sunshine. Got out to gentle breezes and started. Cool temps and sun to start the day. Up a ways conditions changed. Sun ducked behind clouds, misty rain came with gusts of wind. A few minutes later it changed back. As I only brought my pack with water, snacks, and a beach towel, oh well. They weather did this several times on this trip. Made the first set of train cars. Then continued to the tunnels. Came across a couple. The guy sort of covered his eyes while smirking. The girl just smiled. Tried to ask how far they went as it is still early. They replied"no understand". I continued until I could go no more. Nature put a guard to stop me. While hiking i saw a stick that I quickly recognized was not a stick. A rattlesnake! It saw me and asked What I was doing there. I told him I was stepping back. Not enough path to go around. Snakes can jump half their body length. 6 feet was not enough clearance for me. This snake would not nude. I have never come across a snake who would not leave from people. With the second set of train cars in view, I turned back. Got back to the first cars and started to check them out. Three guys were in there. They only said hi. After checking out I went back to Dr anza springs to check out the hot tub. Still deserved it. Two other residents were there. Still not a bad day. And then the drive home. Did not need to dress until I got out to eat dinner at 630 before a meeting.

Two or three years ago, before vandals moved and derailed the first set of train cars blocking the main line, the railroad still ran trains past DeAnza. Made me a bit nervous to be walking the tracks. Anybody know the current status of RR operations?

That track looks to be in a better state than some I've worked trains down :)

Current status is not in operation. There is an operator supposedly going to bring back operations. Nothing really heard about when it might occur.
