Why isn't your wife into nudism?
Return to DiscussionsI noticed the disproportionate number of husbands here whose wife is just not into it.
Just out of curiosity: what's the hang-up?
I've listed some common reason here:
1 - Body Image: That's probably the main one. It is the belief that her body is just "good enough" to be seen naked.
My thoughts: 10 minutes at a nudist resort would make them realize that there's no such thing as "not good enough" at a nudist resort.
2 - Sexualization/objectification: It is the belief that being seen naked will automatically generate sexual thoughts or negative judgement from the male population.
My thoughts: In the likely event that sexual thoughts or negative judgement are even generated; it would likely never be openly expressed.
3 - Ageism: The belief that being openly nude is a "young person's game"; and after a certain age, people are too mature to just walk around naked.
My thoughts: the average nudist population is middle-aged+
4 - Morality: The belief that being naked around people is "undignified." And/or nudity should strictly be between husband and wife. Or that nudist are pleasure-seeking hedonists. That one can be a tough one to crack because it often has to do with personal values.
My thoughts: morality has nothing to do with it
5 - Esthetics: Some women just don't like nudity. Period. "I don't want to see a bunch of saggy tits and balls hanging in my face" is often mentioned.
My thoughts: It's not about a "bunch of saggy tits and balls." It's about enjoying being nude.
6- Past traumas: That's the most unfortunate one: when nudity is associated with some past trauma. That's a really tough one.
My thoughts: the nudist resort is totally safe. No one is out to hurt anyone.
In most cases, the hang-up is going to be a combination of more than one factor in varying degrees. For my wife it was 5 with a touch of 4. It definitely took a lot of work to get her to look past other people's nudity; less so to get her to accept that there was nothing "undignified" about being naked around nudists.
Thoughts?
I would say for my wife it is all of the reasons listed except for past trauma. As she (and other women) get older their bodies sag more than men. This makes sense as men have more muscle mass and can hold it together better. My wife reached a point where she doesn't even want me to see her naked.
I have a nudist friend that his wife enjoyed the lifestyle up to the point of reaching menopause. Postmenopause she had zero desire to be nude. obviously, hormonal changes occur but so does the women's psych for various reasons.
Yes, for my spouse it's all but past trauma, too. (The "past trauma" bit was my ex-, alas). Recently, she's begun to hang out nude about the house a tiny bit more than in the past, and I think (perhaps egotistically) that it's because I compliment her all the time about her body. But just the other day we did a COVID escape to a small resort nearby that had individual cottages and one hot tub. It was clear by nightfall that ours was the only occupied cottage, so I (of course, LOL) went into the tub nude, but she wore her suit. To her credit, though, when we were well heated and getting out, she stripped out of the suit and dried herself off before we put on our robes and headed back to our cottage.
That said, I know she'd be horrified to learn that I am on this site. Sigh. Nothing's perfect, I guess ;)
For my wife, it is a mix of all of the above. She isn't comfortable with herself, but she also links nakedness with sex. For her, those are the reasons she opposes it. No real trauma. No real history of being naked and not liking it. It's just her preference. After three kids, she's still the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. :-)
For my wife, i believe it is body image, we are still nudist and sit around naked most of the time but i noticed as we grow older she likes to wear PJs more over just being nude. We still visit resorts and actually have a trip planned for the spring which will take us to two in Fla. And when ever possible she likes the nude beach but as we entered our 50s, she is not so much into crowded places but would rather wonder off someplace secluded. As for me, i find the older i get the less i give a damn who sees me or what they thing
My wife fits all the categories except the trauma. We've been to many nude beaches and resorts over the years. After menopause, she no longer wants to be fully nude, but will go topless. That limits the places you can go as many require full nudity on the beach or at the pool. I'm always nude at home, but more and more, she is wanting me to cover up when others are around. I have no nudist friends in the area, and am nude around my clothed friends when they come over. She does still skinny dip with me in our pool.
Same here, my wife in the past wanted the light of when we were in the bedroom, nowadays she doesnt mind the light onthink it is often a confidence issue about their bodies, that it is simply not beautiful enough.
I only recently started to enjoy my own body more, guess when we get older we just dont care what people think of us anymore and our confidence grows

True for me, but the opposite for my wife.
While she was rarely nude at home (and never in public) now that she is older and a little heavier, she almost never is except in the shower.
