Nude Modeling

This group is for all of us who have found the joy of modeling nude, be it for an art class, professional photographer, or a free lance artist. Or maybe you're someone who's always thought about modeling naked for class or artist. Here is where you can share your experience, both serious and funny, or if you're new to it, ask questions to see if it's something you seriously want...

Wanting To Model for Art Schools/Groups

Return to Discussions

I recently retired and have plenty of time on my hands. I read an article about art classes looking for live models and thought this could be a great way to bring in a bit of extra cash. I can hold long and short poses (did a couple of volunteer poses for an artist during the pandemic) but I'm not very creative when it comes to setting the pose. Does anyone have some suggestions for developing routines for various types of poses.

RE:Wanting To Model for Art Schools/Groups

I have been doing this a little bit since retiring a few months ago. Generally the artist, or instructor if it is a class will determine the poses.
I enjoy doing it and the few extra bucks helps, but you are not going to make a living doing it unless you are 25 y/o 6'2 180 pounds with a chiseled chest and 6 pack abs. Since those guys command big bucks it does create opportunities for us older guys.
Some of the ones I posed for are on my profile galleries. Go for it!

First off, dont listen to anyone who says you cant do it. Colleges and universities are always looking for models. Apply at a college/university near you and if none around, find an art studio and go talk to them. All body types are accepted in these settings.
Ive posed for going on thee years now and its been a blast!
Go to www.human-anatomy-for-artist.com and look at the poses to get some ideas for posing. Also go to posespace.com and look there as well. Great sites with helpful pose ideas.
Items you will need when you pose include,
Robe
Soft throw to put down on the stage when its cold
Water
Snack. Always a win.

Relax and try not to think about them looking at you. Just relax and concentrate on the pose as well as the next pose. And above all, just have fun!

I have been doing this for a couple of local arts colleges and several community arts groups, and I enjoy the experience. Folks are usually welcoming and appreciative of the model. In terms of poses, unlike the experience of another fellow who posted a reply, it's always been up to me to come up with them. Teachers or model coordinators will establish the requirements in terms of types (so many gesture, i.e. quick poses, so many medium-duration, and whether or not they need a long pose). Sometimes when it's for classes, they'll ask for poses that focus on a specific teaching aspect (whether it be specific parts of the body/anatomy, or the notion of shadows, etc. But I have to come up with the poses. There are a multitude of sources online for artistic poses to support life drawing. Just search on those keywords, and you'll find several good ideas for poses.
