Nudist First Time Stories

When I first visited TN, I was new to nudism. I thought I wasn't normal for wanting to be naked, especially in front of others socially. Is there something wrong with me? I wanted to know how others felt their first time. They were not easy to find. This group is for us to help them, the new, the curious. My first time at a nude public beach

Return to Discussions

It was 3 years ago. My wife and I were vacationing in Seattle and staying at a historical hotel down town. It had an amazing sauna I visited every morning. I had researched nude beaches in the area and found one on Lake Washington virtually right in town. This was early in my "nudity curiosity" phase and my wife wasn't all that sure about my new found interest. I had no Idea how I was going to explore the beach as I didn't share with her anything about it and didn't know if it would be accepted or not. One of the days she said she wanted to spend some girl time with her aunt and If I minded being on my own for the day. Hiding my excitement, I said don't worry about me, I'll be fine exploring on my own, go have fun! Nervous excitement, the real thing, naked and on display, could I really do this? I had to find out. Being frugal, I mapped out the bus line and knew I could get within a mile of the beach. An easy walk. Near by was "Uncle Ed's pot shop" First I stopped at Ed's for something to settle me down a bit as my heart was pounding. Then a short walk to Trader Joe's for a couple beers and a stop at a taco street vendor, all on my way to the park. The short walk down the trail, my heard seemed to be beating out of my chest. There they were, naked people, maybe a dozen, scattered about the beach area, mostly gay men I supposed but a few females/couples as well, just relaxing in the sun. I sat back a ways up the hill and opened a beer, then I lit up the joint for a short puff and started to relax. My emotions were all over the place. Then finally it was "here goes nothin' and I took off my clothes. It was sensory overload! Scary, nervous, exciting, liberating and rebellious all at the same time! More beer, and a bit more of the pot until I was ready for the big moment. Just do it! Act like it's a natural thing! I finally got up the nerve to take a stroll down to the water, exposed to the world and slowly walked out into the water. It was a crazy level of energy and excitement, no erection, just me naked in the world. Absolutely amazing! I swam around for a while loving the skinny dipping freedom! What an incredible rush. Then came the next hurdle, full frontal exposure as I walked back to my spot. Act natural I told myself as I returned to my clothes. More beer, a little more pot and my debriefing with myself. What did I just do and how do I feel about it. All thumbs up! It was all good! I think I'm officially committed to being a nudist. The whole experience was electric! Can I share this with my wife? What will she think? When it finally came out she said to me "Why didn't you take me?" The final barrier was down. I felt then that I could finally be free to be free!

RE:My first time at a nude public beach

I am old enough that I grew up with male communal nudity, especially swimming was the norm.
A friend of mine had a pool and some of us routinely swam nude there when his parents weren't home.
He eventually started going to the nearest nude beach and told some of the rest of us how much he liked it.
Since by that time I had over an hour away, going together was not practical.
We tried several times to find a day to meet there, but it never worked out.
One day, I had a late afternoon commitment near the nude beach.
I got up early and drove there.
There were more men than women, but I was still reluctant to be nude at first.
Eventually, I took off my suit and quickly walked to the water and in waist deep.
Once I felt the ocean on my entire body, I was hooked.

RE:My first time at a nude public beach

My first time at a nude beach was way back in 1972/'73, I was in the Navy at the time. We'd just returned from a 8 month deployment to Vietnam. My nudism was restricted to sleeping nude and taking showers on the lower deck of the Main Engine Room. I took leave when we got home and spent time at home and getting reacquainted with my GF/Wife. We got married soon after and we bought a couple of beater cars. I took one back up to the bay area where my ship was ported and did some exploring of the bay area on weekends I did not come home.

One Sunday, a good friend and shipmate and I headed south to spend the day in Santa Cruz, CA. There's quite a college scene there and we knew we'd be around others our age and like most sailors on liberty, we thought about tying one on and letting loose. As we drove south of Davenport, a small beach community, we noticed a slew of cars parked on the side of the road. Curiosity got to me first and I pulled over to see what was going on. We walked over to the cliff side and looked down on this cove where there had to be over 100 naked people on the beach. It took me about 0.5 seconds to kick the idea of Santa Cruz to the curb and head back to the car and get my sleeping bag to use to sit on.

We walked down to the area with all the nudes and I didn't hesitate the other 0.5 seconds and stripped. My buddy slowly stripped and sat for a bit but I went for a walk. I was surprised at the friendliness of those that didn't know me from Adam. I returned to the sleeping bag where I sat with my buddy and about 30 mins later, two young college girls and a guy came over and invited us to move over closer to them and hang out. As we walked to there spot on the beach, my buddy kept the sleeping bag close to his abdomen. When we got to the spot to lay out the sleeping bag, he laid it out and immediately laid on his stomach. The sight of dozens of naked woman was just too much for him! hahaha

We spent the entire day with this group of college kids and made some nice friends. It was a great first time experience for me and one that I had only read about in naturist magazine before that day. I returned to Bonny Doon Beach every single day I had off and most weekends when I didn't come home. I told Di about the place and she was curious but afraid of social nudism at that time. Just before I got out of the Navy, Di came up to spend the weekend with me in San Francisco. On that Saturday when I asked her what she'd like to do, she said, "take me to that beach you go to." Got us some provisions, had the sleeping bag in the car and off we went. She, to this day, says that Bonny Doon is her favorite nude beach here in the US.

Our eldest grandson will be attending college up in that area and we've already made plans to go up and visit and visit nude beaches up there, including Bonny Doon. Our nude beach, Blacks Beach in San Diego, is getting too difficult to get down to and back up from. Back, knees and my wife's fear of that trail has kept us from visiting Blacks anymore. Looking forward to visiting some of my old happy haunts.

Surprised you have only been a social nudist for 3 years. You display a level of confidence and adventure that I would only expect from a long time nudist.

RE:My first time at a nude public beach

The only public nude beach I've been to where i participated in nudism is Apollo Beach in New Smyrna. I would go to a golf outing every year with work in the Villages of Lady Lake and decided to stop by on the way home. It was a little out of the way and only got to spend about an hour that time but boy was i hooked. I've probably been there a dozen times since then and always take my surfboard for some nude surfing (the best way to surf) but now after the golf outing I go to Cypress Cove where I camp for the weekend.

I have been to Blacks Beach a few times back in the 80's but was always a surf trip and before I was practicing nudism. And your right Andy, that walk down the cliff is crazy. And going down with a surfboard and wetsuit is no fun either. Last time I went there I couldn't walk the next day my legs were so shot.

FreeLee my daughter lives in Seattle. The next time I go there for a visit I'm definitely checking out that beach.

RE:My first time at a nude public beach

My wife's first nude beach experience took place at one of two local nude tolerant beaches we have in Southern California. The section of nude use area is on the San Onofre State Beach near the Trail 6 parking lot. Trail 6 is the last trail down to the beach and it's public parking lot abuts the Camp Pendleton Marine Corp base property in Oceanside. It was a popular spot for nudists but those visiting for sexual purposes got it shut down.

I had visited this beach a few times when my wife was away on conferences/seminars for work. She would be gone for a weekend so I'd head down on a Friday and Saturday and spend the entire day and walk up the trail at dusk. I was on a scouting mission. I had to find out if it was safe enough to take her and the vibe would be comfortable enough for her to want to stay and give it a go. After her second time away, she came home with a ton more questions about the beach. She agreed to go and we set a date.

Luckily, the weather cooperated and it was a really nice day. It was a Saturday and the beach was full of naked people of all ages. The area for nudists on this beach was about 300 yards long. I picked a spot away from the main crowd and we sat closer to the boundary fence from the state beach and Marine base. I wasted no time in stripping and setting up our spot. Di stood and just watched everything that was going on. A couple minutes later, she sat in her shorts and t shirt. I figured we'd only be there for about 30-45 mins and told her that we'd leave if she didn't like it. She pulled out her book to read but couldn't stop looking around at all that was going on. 10-15 mins after sitting in her shorts and t shirt, she stood up and looked at me. I figured, "this is it, we're outta here!" , but instead she said, "this is stupid. I'm the only one clothed here." She dropped her shorts and pulled off her t shirt and she was naked. She promptly sat down and we spent most of the day there.

When it was time to leave, I figured she'd had enough of that experience and wouldn't return again but on the way up the trail to the car she said that she'd like to visit again. We visited several more times that summer and that began our weekly visits throughout the rest of the year when the coastal weather was good. We even visited the beach one day while it was a scorcher in our valley but cold, overcast and foggy at the beach. We sat and enjoyed the deserted beach all to ourselves. That first time experience is one of the reasons Di is only mildly hesitant about visiting other nude beaches. We try and find them everywhere we visit.

I lived a few miles from there in San Clemente in the 80's and used to surf there. Didn't know it was a nude beach but then I always headed north to the Trestle surf breaks. Had I known I might have been a nudist a lot younger. :-)

When San O closed to nude use in late July, 2010, it had been a tolerated nude beach for 35 years. That would put nude use starting at mid 70's. You missed out on lots of good naked time and naked surfing! ;DD

RE:My first time at a nude public beach

We have not really been to a nude beach. I went to Hippy Hollow this past February. Although not really a beach, it is the only large body of water with a nude coast line that I have been to.

I was in Austin on a business trip and had an afternoon off. By the time I was able to get a Lyft there, I only had 45 minutes to explore. Because it was February, I was the only one there. The only person I saw was in a sailboat that kept getting closer to me while I was nude. After walking down to the shore, I stripped and put my clothes in my backpack and walked along the rocky shore. I took a few pictures and headed back to the gate, dressing at the sign that said, nudity not allowed in parking lot. When I got back to the gate, the agent told me she forgot I was even there and that I could have stayed because no one was likely to check. And since I didnt have a car, I didnt need to have the gate open. I had already summoned a Lyft so I ended up leaving.

I hope to someday go back to Hippy Hollow when it is more populated and to a real nude beach.

RE:My first time at a nude public beach

I first tried a nude beach in the 1980s and was immediately hooked on the sensation. I went alone because I didn't know what to expect and I didn't know if any of my friends would ever try it. As soon as I took my clothes off, I loved the feeling, and it took me no more than 10 minutes to become comfortable being nude around others. I go to resorts more than beaches now due to their proximity to me, but I love either. As others have said, the only regret I have is that I didn't try it sooner.

RE:My first time at a nude public beach

My first time at a nude beach was an accident to be honest. I had been skinny dipping in the lake I grew up on in Indiana for several years and got naked back in the woods that surrounded the lake, as well as in the hills that surrounded Grand Junction when I lived with my dad there, but did not even know there were such things as nudism or naturism. Even once in college back in 1983 when I would go into the mountains off of the Kern River to tan naked with my fiance, I had no idea nudists and naturists existed. I was just a guy who loved being naked and encouraged his girlfriend to do the same. We had decided to go down to San Diego for a weekend away from the chaos of our college life, dining at a fancy restaurant and hanging out at La Jolla, when she said that she wanted to go to the aquarium at the Scripps Institute the next day. It was fun, and afterwards, we walked down the stairs to walk north on the beach to the pier that was there. Further to the north, I could see that there was a point that came off of the cliffs, and being the kind of guy who always "wanted-to-see-what-was-on-the-other-side", we continued north and walked around the point. I guess this was in the days before the city claimed the southern end of Blacks Beach as non-nude, because there before us was a naked man that my fiance found fascinating, and as we stood there wondering how in the world a naked man could be standing at the beach without getting arrested, we noticed many other naked folk. Yeah ... several miles of naked bliss. It was on after that! We did not have towels, so we did not lay out in the late afternoon sun or go for a swim. But we definitely went back afterwards. This was before I knew about "The World Guide to Nude Beaches and Recreation Areas" which was how I found out about the path, so I did not know there was a path that led down from the glider port, and when we did go, it was always from a long walk accessed near the institute. Years later while in the military, I found out about the path from the guide, but to be honest, if I were to go today, I might just make the long walk as opposed to making the climb out as I did when a younger man. But the result remains: I love Blacks Beach and I miss going there.
