Hunting for wild pigs on my property

Return to Discussions

Nov. 11, 2020 Wild pigs tare up our planted trees all the time. They do lots of damage. Because of the property damage they cause the state of California will issue a "Depredation Permit for wild pig". A friend and I sat in a camouflage tent last night from 5:30 p.m. until 2 a.m. At 2 a.m. a herd of 6 wild pigs came in. It was dark. We had some lights on but in the woods it was very shadowed. When the pigs came in it was like a horror movie. The snorting and grunting was loud and I could hear the power in their motion as they walked towards our pond. My friend turned on his scope light and with one clean shot he dropped this pig. This picture was taken at 3 a.m. The temperature outside was in the low 40's so I stoked up the fire in my workshop and we cleaned and skinned him in the garage. The garage was toasty warm. Using the tractor to hang the pig while we skinned it was totally great.

Wild boar is a delicacy compared to commercial pork so enjoy and fill up your neighbors' freezers with the other five.
