Any Roman baths in North America

Return to Discussions

Does anyone know of any baths in North America similar in design and purpose to the Roman baths of centuries past? I get the impression they were a staple of male society - a less stressful time when there was no stigma placed on guys who wanted to just hang out naked. But then I do stand to be corrected.

Thanks to anyone who has a story to share.

Not sure which aspect of a Roman Bath you are seeking, but the closest i think we have in America are Korean bathhouses. Pools, saunas, steam, jacuzzis, etc, that are separated by the sexes. If you want a more interactive experience, go to a gay bathhouse, like Steamworks in Chicago, Club Fort Lauderdale, e.t.c. . Those places also have full gyms, saunas, pools, steamrooms, e.t.c, where guys are always naked

NYC has several Russian Baths which are similar in nature. The Russian and Turkish Baths on 10th Street are over 100 years old and have hosted the likes of John Belushi among many others. Sunday mornings and Thursday afternoons are men only and clothing optional. Hopefully theyll be back after Covid.

Besides the one you mentioned, where are the other Russian Baths in NYC or in the surrounding area?

Aire Ancients Baths Chicago is a high end modern spa. It's co-ed, clothing is required. It's a faux ancient bath spa, owners are from Spain.

I have been to a Koran spy in Dallas several times, not co-ed but nice area for men with 3 different hot tubs, hot sauna and steam sauna and cold pool. They also offer a full body scrub and I wonderful, you will never be cleaner in your life. King Spa in Dallas and they have one in Chicago but never been to that one . Wishing I was there right now
