Adding privacy to yard

Return to Discussions

I just joined recently, and this group seems to be where I'm at in my nudist adventures, or lack thereof... My suburban property is fairly typical, with three other properties sharing fences. However, when I bought the house, one of the things I liked was the privacy screening thanks to the plants and trees in the yard behind me and that all of the houses are one story.

An investor bought the house behind mine to flip, added on a master suite in the back that can see over our somewhat low fences, and cut down most of the vegetation in that yard. I also came to realize that the older guy and his "lady friend" next door who like to smoke on his porch can look down into my yard with ease.

Along with the ivy, trees, vines, and arbors, I plan on adding some curtains to my covered patio on the sides. I don't want to block the light getting into my house and make that feel like a dungeon, so I'm somewhat at a loss. For now, I have my hammock in the side yard, screened by ivy, as my stealth refuge outdoors when it warms up...

So, anyway, I'm happy to be here and see how others are able to adapt and overcome a lack of privacy :)

I had a 6 foot fence built around the pool and deck.

That's the ultimate plan once my old 5' fences go down in a storm . I actually want 6' redwood with a 12" footer. Our houses are on raised foundations, so the 5' fence doesn't provide much in the way of privacy and the gaps, because they're old, don't help either. For now, I have ivy growing up metal trellises I attached to the tops, but they don't span the entire length of the yard.

I find secluded or distance helps it when it's in people's faces and they don't want it. But with a bush not under bush lol. It could help ?

Try talking to your neighbors. Youre guessing what they think and decoding for them. You could be right but Id bet youd be surprised by at least some of them if you talk to them theyll know you are not trying to be an exhibitionist or lewd, but not talking to them and trying to hide they are going to see that you think you are doing something wrong.

Best thing I did was talk to my neighbor I got tired of sneeking around . I asked them one day in a text and they came back it did not bother them , I think they saw me already but did not say anything to me

I'm surrounded by neighbours on all sides. My back garden (yard) is a sun trap. I've planted a tall tree to screen every one of my neighbour's houses. So, now, the view from my garden is a surrounding of trees. And it's still a sun trap. Everyone in the village knows I'm a nudist. Some are OK with it, others aren't. That is only relevant if they come into my garden while I'm out there. Then it's up to them. Mostly they ignore my nudity, one has told me off and others have been mildly amused.

Leyland Cypress trees are great privacy screening that grow fast and tall and wide.

RE:Adding privacy to yard

At the farm, we have 2-3 layers of evergreen trees that circle the yard. The trees range from 10 - 20 feet in height. The trees are also staggered so if a car comes down our road, I can step behind any tree. I love walked nude throughout the farm yard knowing i can step out of sight. I have several spots that get a circle of sunlight yet I am totally hidden (secret garden). I also have a glider where our deck railing breaks up sight from the driveway.

I don't have an answer, I wish I did. My HOA is such a stickler on what we grow and plant, so I cant put any tall plants to shield my yard either.
