The Free Life

be happy with what you have and love life, money isn't everything so enjoy being free

This group is a great idea, I am definitely not money oriented something of an incompatibility with my partner not that she's money hungry either, I think women are more generally insecure and like to know that the bills will always be paid on time etc. This has rarely the case with the men in my life, most if not all have been/are like me. I have the advantage of a low cost way of life, one that I'm trying hard to make even lower cost, I hate the thought that many a corporation is getting rich on the pickings of a multitude of we mere mortals. I'm looking to build a totally off grid home, eco style from straw bales and live the simplest life possible, grow most if not all our own food and meat and simply do without anything we cannot make, grow or afford. I know only too well that this is easier said than done, so not disillusion just determined. Ideally I would love to drop off the radar altogether but I guess this will also be much more difficult to do in reality.
Taking pleasure from the natural world that surrounds us is something I didn't learn to do until I moved to France almost 13 years ago. After renovating a very dilapidated property I began working in London each winter, earning as much there in 5 months as I could have here working full time. This has given me the luxury of spending time to stop and enjoy the abundance of what nature has to offer, not to mention the near silence of our surroundings, peace and quiet aplenty that has now left me in dread of returning to London or any other heavily populated area. So now I am faced with the dilemma of finding work here, low paid and limited choice, it will keep the wolf from the door until I sell the cottage we currently rent to a very nice young Frenchman and have enough money to finance the purchase of a suitably isolated building plot and start building the dream we had 13 years ago but failed to see the mistake we were making in buying and renovating a house that would be expensive to heat and maintain and with too little land land to become self sufficient.
Above all our new home will have the biggest advantage of all, we will be able to stay naked 24/7/365 weather permitting of course! On this point, we spent a week at a naturist campsite in June, the weather was reasonable but rather cold at times, of all the people there we were the only ones who remained steadfastly naked, I think with some time to acclimatize it would be possible to dispense with clothes pretty much full time even in the winter. We will have a nice warm home and a couple of poly-tunnels so the short distance between them should be bearable. Perhaps I might choose to wear something when using machinery such as a chainsaw though!!
Naked hugs to all, Paul x

RE: Great idea

I can identify with your hopes and plans, money helps but its not the be all and end all in life. Being happy and enjoying the results of your self-sufficiency are important factors too. I'd like to do similar, with the same ideal of being able to live naked 24/7, for some of us being naked is a great way to be happier and comfortable.
It sounds like you're much further down the road that will achieve this then I am. I hope you've got nearer to it since you posted.
