I will be in Austin and want to take advantage of your Clothing Optional Park, the Infamous Hippie Hollow. Any pointers for a newbie to the area? Must See's or Avoids? Thank you for your time and consideration folks! Uncutjoy

Hippie Hollow Park recently re-opened, but only is allowed to admit 30% of capacity. As such, my advice is that when you are here next week:

1) get there early - the park opens at 11am
2) check the forecast. I'm hearing that we're expecting a cold front coming thru and shrinkage may ensue.
3) bring sunscreen no matter what. There'll usually be someone around that will oblige to rub some on your back!

Must Do's: the park has a paved pathway that runs the full length of the park. Many of the regulars use it for regular exercise, and I encourage you to see the whole park this way. The "gay section" if I dare call it that is at the far left of the park (as you face the lake).

Don'ts: Don't forget to bring water or something to keep you hydrated...the wind across the water combined with the hot sun is deceptively de-hydrating. And don't forget to bring shoes...even water shoes if you have them. The coastline is rocky, and although the water is typically clear, it's wise to wear something to protect your feet just in case. If you have a floatie or inflatable raft, bring it...you'll love floating in the lake with your dangly bits free and clear!
