2010-07-29Thur29th July 2010. (VERY Early Thursday morning.)Been up all night. Sooty (my cat) was hit by a car last night.Vet says suspected broken pelvis.16:30 pm.X-rays have confirmed that Sooty does have a broken pelvis, but, it could have been a lot worse :) It cracked right down the middle, but NOT broken into lots of pieces, some pain killers and 4 to 6 weeks confined to a gage, should see him ok again, though he'll probably have a limp (Like I care! :) (thought I'd lost him) and a badly bruised bladder causing a fair bit of blood, but NO other injuries. Also discovered he may have high blood pressure, which is actually a bit more worrying long term. He may be able to come home tomorrow. fingers crossed. :)My Sis has provided a dog cage, AND is going to settle the bill! .... maybe she's not so bad after all! :)____________________________________________________________________________________________Update: Fri 30th July 2010.Brought Sooty home tonight! .... AND, ..... blood pressure and heart rate are ok. It must have just been the shock of it all, and maybe a little concussion. Got some liquid painkiller to put in his food. He can just about stand (long enough to eat) and sit up ok. Seems happy in his cage (poor thing) on the kitchen table. Now it's just a case of getting him to rest, and not move too much for four to six weeks, and just hope that his pelvis break heals ok. Very impressed with the vet, they have a brand new surgery, superb facilities. The vet was a very nice guy, couldn't fault the service at all. The only thing that spoiled it was the bill, ....... I was guessing maybe two to three hundred, ........ hoping that I'd be pleasantly surprised, ........ It was, ........three hundred and seventy seven pounds.Ouch!:(_____________________________________________________________________________________________Update: Mon 2nd Aug 2110.Sooty is doing fine now, eating ok and is able to stand a little, not quite so wobbly.____________________________________________________________________________________ANNOUNCEMENT.We are very pleased to announce, that Sooty is now receiving visitors.Tea and biscuits can be provided upon request.(please note, only two people permitted at the bedside at any one time)(All visitors are requested to leave by 21:00 hrs.)Thank you.^ ^( Q Q )---- ^ ----____________________________________________________________________________________Update: Sat 7th Aug 2010.Sooty is still good, seems happy, ( doesn't seem bothered about being in a cage) eating and talking well :) Stools are a bit hard, so I gave him a drop more milk. (hehe, I'm sure you -really- wanted to know that!) He's a bit better on his legs, but still very wobbly. :(____________________________________________________________________________________Update: Tuesday 24th August 2010.Sooty is doing fine, this last week he finally decided that he'd had enough of the cage, and so I've had to let him loose in the house. He's getting stronger all the time, and is now able to jump up onto chairs no problem, even dashes from room to room. I told him to take it easy, but you know what cat are like :(I'm beginning to wonder if he -even- had a broken pelvis, as thankfully, he doesn't seem to have a limp or be lopsided at all. I regret not actually seeing the x-rays, and now I'm wondering if the vet ripped me off.I think it will be quite a while before I'm happy to let him go outside again, so far he hasn't asked, but I suppose I'll eventually have to, if he starts to make too much fuss about it, he can be very persuasive at times.13.12.10Now I've lost Sooty as well. He went off his food several days ago. When I took himto the vet to-day, she said he was very anaemic and week, and due to his age (16)it was decided that thekindest decision was to let him go.It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do, I will really miss him so very much.
