Exploitation

Many feminists have said that pin-ups of topless and near naked women is exploiting them. Is that true or are they exploiting the horny male readers? I have heard of many famous women who started their carriers as topless pin-ups on page 3 of the Sun. Are the feminists just jealous? By the way those pin-ups are/were nothing compared to what we see here or on an average nude beach.

RE:Exploitation

It's a common argument, made not only by feminists but by morally conservative / prudish types. Exploit means "to make full use of and derive benefit from". Since the nude models are paid for the shoots - usually - they are benefiting just as much as the photographers / publishers.

RE:Exploitation

This shows how values and attitudes have changed over the years. In the 50s and 60s it was a sign of women's freedom and self-determination when they showed their bare breasts. In the 80's and 90's girls and women sunbathed topless in public pools and on the beach in Europe. Today a bare woman's breast is a sign of the exploitation and oppression of women. On the other side, the buttocks are now shown almost naked, with only the butt crack being covered with a narrow strip of fabric.
