For what its worth I do appreciate the insight on how long its meant to last. Supposing that one actually does know the reason, there ought to be some kind of appeal process. Case in point, after a decade of otherwise upright citizenship on the site, I just got my first ban from chat for criticizing a moderators manners.

You can report a mod to the site as long as you can remember who s/he is.
