National Park Service Closes beaches August 31st

We were out at beach and there was a notice posted at gate that the National Park Service will close the beaches, Playalinda and Apollo, on August 31st due to hurricane Dorian and will remain close till further notice. After hurricane Dorian passes, an evaluation time will evaluate the beaches and beaches will open when it's safe.

We were at Playalinda Sept28-Oct 1. There has been significant beach erosion since we were there in July. At high tide there was only a sliver of sand to set up on. There were two storms out in the Atlantic (Karen and Jerry) and the surf was very rough making it difficult to enjoy the water. There was a fair amount seagrass coming a shore at high tide and sadly huge amount of plastics from the Bahamas being deposited along the dune line. We picked up a multiple large trash bags all four days we were there. So when you go be sure to bring a bag and do your part to help get it cleaned up.
