Closing pool

I live in the panhandle, when is an average time to close up the pool? First time down here, moved here a year ago this week. All feed back welcome.

When I lived in lower Alabama we kept the pool running all year. Now living in northern Alabama we usually close it late October or early November. You should not close/cover the pool when the daytime outside temperatures are warm because the water is not being circulated and filtered which can cause water to become cloudy with algae growth.

Years ago (when I had a pool) I was living in Tennessee and even up there we kept the pool operating year round. Who wants to look at an empty or nasty pool when it can be sparkling clean (and at least look inviting) year round!

I have many trees on the farm and it seems like every leaf tries to land in the pool so I reluctantly winterize and put a cover over it for about 4 months.
