14 feet in 14 days

The lake has risen about 14 feet in the last 14 days. Two weeks ago we flew over the lake from north to south. At that time the north end was pretty much just the main river channel, not a lot of places to camp off of the main river. So we are not going to boat all the way from Wahweap to the north end of the lake. Another reason for this decision is the need to carry extra fuel. We hear valet launching at Antelope Marina is again open. We are planning on valet launching there and heading up to somewhere around Padre Bay. We are planning on being on the water from 5/17 to 5/24. We will report the conditions after. Fun Sun and good fishing to all. LP Boaters.

Spoke with Wahweap Marina yesterday they said the lake is steady rising and the snow packs are just starting to melt at a steady rate. We found that camping was pretty plentiful about an hour out of Wahweap and the fuel is less. Has that changed? We will be on the lake for 2 weeks in August.

We were on the Lake from May 18 until May 24. Our trip was fantastic! The first night we found a great camp site tucked between the rocks at the mouth of Warm Creek just before the main river channel goes into the narrows that connect up to Padre Bay. Nights 2,3 & 4 we camped just inside the mouth of Face canyon. Nights 5 &6 we camped further into Face canyon. The weather was great, 80s in the day and 60s at night. There were scattered thunderstorms each afternoon which had some strong and gusty winds. On day 1 one of the thunderstorms caught us in Warm Creek. The winds were strong, the rain moderate. We boated around staying in the lee behind the rocks and rode it out. It lasted less than an hour. Each afternoon the winds came up so we made sure we were tied up and secured in a protected place behind rocks. The water is raising about 1 1/2 feet a day. 3/4 of an inch per hour. It required adjusting the ropes every hour or so. We moved our camp on day 4 because the breakwater rocks we tied up behind were covered with water and no longer a break water. The beaches were great. With the water coming up the beaches are very nice clean dry sand.

The fuel prices in Page vary 80 cents per gallon. The most expensive are on the outskirts of town. The best price we found was a new Circle K in the center of town. With our Frys grocery discount we paid 3.80 per gallon for regular gas. This is $100 difference for a tank of gas in the boat.

We will be going again for sure in August, possibly again before then.

Sun and Fun to all.
