Do you even Bench?

Bench Press is not only an exercise for buff dudes who look like they are carrying cantaloupes. It is for granny and little Billy. If you think about it, a push-up for some is difficult. I mean, you are lifting nearly your bodyweight. Whereas you could start benching with just the bar for reps (35/45 pounds). Its great to scale down if the strength isnt there.

The biggest fault I see for strength is elbows flailing outward, which Im guilty of too when I get tired. This is a weakness indicator. It transfers the weight away from the chest and depends on anterior deltoids and triceps. The Mark Bell Slingshot trains you to flatten back, rotate shoulder blades back and down, and rotates elbows inward. Mark benches 854# so I would trust his advice. It is also more than just a chest exercise. Powerlifters talk a lot about engaging the lats so you see a big back arch to engage. Glutes and legs are working too.
